I want to buy a BIPAP machine and i need some help choosing one
Hello everyone.

I have been diagnosed with high "Obstructive sleep apnea syndrome" back in late 2019 and while i was still deciding what to do covid happened so i postponed my decision. Now i am researching on this and i need some help choosing a Bipap machine.

The specialist recommended the following : Full Mask - M , Bipap 18/14 , Humidifier and a ramp 20' ( i think i translated the last one correctly, maybe ).

I have been looking at what machines i can find / afford and i have found the following, please give me some pointers on them :

- second hand - BIPAP Philips DreamStation - model number is DSX700H11 with something like 503 machine hours / 503 blower hours on it at around 850 euro ( without a full mask included )

- second hand - Philips Respironics System One BIPAP AVAPS - seller says its new but i dont know because of the pics of it and its around 300 euro ( without hose and full mask i think )

- new - BiPAP SleepCube BiLevel ST model or S model or AutoBilevel - produced by Drive DeVilbiss , i dont know if this machines come with accessories , humidifier or anything because the website does not say much about them ( does not inspire trust ) and they cost around 930 euro

- new - BiPAP Medicraft Bilevel ST - produced by MediCraft - same website as above , has no description and i dont know what accessories it has , price is around 700 euro

- new - BiPAP produced by Yamind - Has 3 modes : S , S - Auto , CPAP . The website has lots of info and i think even a store front where i can go , price is at 720 euro ( without full face mask ) .

This are the models i was able to find somewhere around what i could maybe afford and im more inclined at this moment towards that new Yamind device since its brand new but i had a hard time finding out how good this is ( and ofc if it does what my doctor prescribed , i have to verify this also since i never owned a device before ) or the second hand Phillips Dreamstation ( if the seller still has not sold it ) .

Please help me with some advices and pointers on this matter .

Thanks

I don't know enough about the machines you're looking at. But: I just bought a Resmed Aircurve 10 Vauto from Supplier #2 and it was delivered to Europe (Switzerland) within a week. The used machine has a 1000 hours on it. Delivery and customs fees were approximately 150 Euros. The machine itself costs $799 at the aformentioned supplier.

I agree the Resmed Aircurve 10 Vauto is the best choice. In second place is the Dreamstation BiPAP Auto DSX700H11. None of the other machines are appropriate for treating obstructive sleep apnea. AVAPS and ST machines are both considered ventilators, and are designed to address other respiratory diseases and problems. The reason I would recommend the Resmed is that it is more proactive in addressing obstructive issues before they become events, while the Philips Respironics tends to be more reactive. I consider the Resmed more comfortable due to the way it handles pressure transitions from EPAP to IPAP and back.

Your doctor has given you a recommendation for fixed pressure, and both of the machines we are discussing are Auto bilevel. That means you can set a range of pressure, and the machine will automatically raise or lower pressure according to your needs. With auto bilevel or BiPAP you can start with a minimum EPAP pressure and specify a maximum IPAP pressure and the pressure support, so it would be reasonable to start at EPAP minimum 11.0, IPAP maximum 20.0 and PS 4.0. The use of ramp is a comfort feature, and 20 minutes or auto is fine. With ramp at auto, the machine will detect sleep breathing and automatically enter normal therapy mode. Experienced users like myself rarely ever use ramp as it is simply not necessary.

I would also recommend ResMed AIRCURVE VAUTO. I bought used from Supplier #2 on the suppliers list at the top of this site. One week use 799 US. Great machine great company. I used a dreamstation for 6 years and the ResMed is a much better machines!

I bought my ASV from Supplier #2 also. Had a great experience. Very nice conversation on the phone, threw in a free 90˚ elbow that comes out of the back of the machine, matched a great price on a mask and gave me the best price on a new machine that I could find anywhere online. I would definitely go back the Supplier #2 for any future needs.

RE: I want to buy a BIPAP machine and i need some help choosing one
Thanks for the recommendations so far. I've started looking into a "S10 AirCurve VAuto BiLevel with HumidAir Heated Humidifier" ( correct me if its not the model specified earlier ).
So , if i understood correctly , with this type of auto machine i will be able to set the pressures my doctor recommended and the machine will also adjust them up or down depending on my needs during my sleep cycle .

Im also still trying to find more info about that Yamind machine , since the convenience of being able to walk into the store and buy it is increasing its utility .

I've also started looking into maybe just buying a mask first and renting a BiPAP machine for a month to test how i adjust to it , but some of the prices seem very high to be honest :
- Bilevel AirCurve 10 Vauto - found a store renting it for 120 euro per month .
- Philips Respironics DreamStation Auto BiPAP - but the price is unlisted ( only a 30 euro CPAP dreamstation is listed so im guessing its at least double that )
- Bilevel prisma25S from Linde - back in 2019 they were asking like 75 euro per month for the machine and humidifier

Also found more sites renting by using google , but most did not have any listings on the costs Sad (feels like a scam where they charge how they want at that moment) ...

Thanks and waiting to gain more info on this topic Smile

Yamind is a brand I have never seen before, and is produced in Shenzhen China. I feel the Chinese machines are third-tier in quality and have a poor reputation for support. They seem to do a good job of knocking off the proprietary algorithms developed by other companies. Since this machine has no supporting software like Oscar, you would be completely on your own. There is probably a good reason this machine is not marketed in the U.S.A. It is not approved by our FDA. I don't know if Romania has a stringent qualification for medical devices, but it is certain that this machine will be less expensive.

The first priority is how can you see what is actually going on? This is what allows us here on AB to understand and make very relevant suggestions to your therapy. As an example look at this Wiki link http://www.apneaboard.com/wiki/index.php...tucking.29

It is only by viewing detailed data such as this that the many here achieve and maintain excellent therapy.

Yes, the VAuto will do exactly what your doctors requested, in "S" (Spontaneous or Manual mode) or you can use Auto mode within a range that encompasses the pressures your doctor recommended which is typically our preference. (EPAP Min = 12, IPAP Max = 20-25(machine max, it will not go there unless your events require it), and PS=4

We here at AB typically prefer the algorithms that ResMed uses to those of other manufactures.

I'll throw my name in as well, voting for ResMed AirCurve 10 VAuto. The convenience of that one in a store nearby is very likely to give very poor treatment or it will fall apart soon. So the convenience is undone by a subpar PAP machine.

The VAuto is not only popular, is supported by OSCAR, but are very reliable and treat very well.

I recommend ResMed AirCurve 10 ASV.  Available at Supplier #2
New:  $2149, Used: $1595 (includes humidifier)
This is an auto-titration device.  It will automatically adjust the pressure based on your breathing.
I have been using the older version of this model, S9 Vpap Adapt for almost eight years.  It is by far, the best machine I have ever used.
