[Equipment] Respironics BiPap A40
#1
Respironics BiPap A40
My sleep specialist has switched me from a Resmed 10, which was on loan from an equipment supplier, to a Respironics A40 which is on loan from his office.   The A40 is BiPap and I have central apnea of over 50 apneas an hour although the Resmed did bring that number down below 20

The A40 machine is obviously new but it seems physically quite large and is a bit noisy.

Can anyone tell me if this is a current production machine or is this just 'new old stock' ??

Any ideas on what software will work with it, sleepyhead won't  and Respironics own software says the serial number is not valid ??

I expect the doctors office is going to try and push me to take this machine,  which would be 100% paid for by the Provincial health plan (OHIP) here in Ontario.

RE: Respironics BiPap A40
The A40 is still in production but we don't see it appear here very often as it is usually used in a hospital setting. It is uncommon in the consumer market. It is designed for both non-invasive and invasive ventilation and has 6 modes of operation: CPAP, BiPAP S, BiPAP S/T, BiPAP Timed, Pressure Controlled and AVAPS-AE. Here is a link to the clinical manual http://ontvep.ca/w/wp-content/uploads/20...nglish.pdf

You can find the manufacture date on the tag that has the model I.D. and other information, or by accessing the menus (see manual). If you have complex or central apnea, the Resmed Aircurve 10 ASV or Philips Auto S/V Advanced would be preferred devices to provide non-invasive ventilation for CA and variable EPAP to maintain a patent airway for obstruction. Again the edge here goes to the Resmed machine for comfort and generally better results.

Take a look at your settings and let us know what mode the machine is set to, and what the pressure and timing settings are. If any software will work, it is EncorePro 2 available in the Software Support Forum here on ApneaBoard.

RE: Respironics BiPap A40
According to the manual the A40 works with Encore.

Find EncorePro 2.2 here http://www.apneaboard.com/forums/Thread-...hines-only
Find EncoreBasic 2.4.8 here: http://www.apneaboard.com/forums/Thread-...hines-only

EncoreBasic is far preferable if it works because it is a smaller, less complex program that has all of the capabilities you need. EncorePro is more suited to managing multiple patients and maintaining privacy and security.
