Suggest turning off EPR totally and just having steady pressure. Try for a few days and see.
For the longest time you would find many folks expecting easier transition with EPR but it just wasn't so. There's not enough real pressure to make exhalation difficult. Your body in nature pushed out the same pressure as it faces when inhaling. I believe to mechanically reduce pressure on exhale is disturbing on a deeply subconscious level. It should eliminate any perception of "working against the machine".
