HELP FOR NEW USER PLEASE
Hi all CPAP users,
I hope I can get some help here. I reside in South Africa
I was recently diagnosed with sleep apnea and am seeking help on which machine to buy. The people who diagnoses my condition said that either a fixed pressure or autoset would be suitable. I have been offered a second hand Resmed S10 Elite machine (fixed pressure) that is in excellent condition at a very good price.
I would like advice on whether I should buy this machine or whether the autoset is a more sensible choice.
Also, I am aware that the S10's have been superseded by the S11. Is the difference between the S10 and S11 significant enough that I should buy the S11 rather than the S10.
Are there any other brands that I should be looking at that have similar funcionalty and competitive prices.
Thanks very much in advance,
Phil
RE: HELP FOR NEW USER PLEASE
ResMed is the gold standard for most users, and the AutoSet would be the best choice for you of what's presented.

RE: HELP FOR NEW USER PLEASE
Phil,
Based on your limited information, any recommendation will effectively be a “crap shoot”. The most important missing information is, what is your pressure requirement?
With a low pressure (say, less than 10 cm-H2O), you could probably get away with a fixed pressure unit. A high pressure (say above 12), you will likely benefit from some sort of Bi-Pap unit. The latter will allow for easier exhale.
That is just one data point. What type of apnea, OSA or CSA?
What is your budget? If you can afford it, you can’t go wrong with some sort of ASV unit regardless of your apnea type.
There have been a number of posts that suggest the AirCurve10 is more reliable than the AirCurve11.
RE: HELP FOR NEW USER PLEASE
Good discussion, with one area I'll disagree with. The higher expense of an ASV would not be needed unless there are Central Apnea and in levels needing this higher treatment.
What I'm saying is ASV is not for everyone.

RE: HELP FOR NEW USER PLEASE
Autoset will always be better than cpap only because it has both capabilities. I say that even as someone who thinks a set pressure is better. More options gives a better chance of success. 50% of people give up.
Breathe through your nose
Reduce sugar and processed food
Soft collar and seal your mouth
RE: HELP FOR NEW USER PLEASE
I would buy the ResMed Airsense 10 if I were you. The 10 has a good long track record and the 11 has more complaints and problems.
