How many did you try?

How many did you try?
I just got sent my first Cpap unit after being diagnosed. They sent me a nasal mask. I didn't like it (never asked me what might work best were just guessing or was it an insurance co. decision?) So I being a mouth breather, I ordered an FFM. I don't like this one either.  How many masks am I likely to have to try before finding the right one? My dealer referred me to their respiratory therapist? How can that person help? Thanks!

Finding the right mask is a never-ending story. I have tried about a dozen. As your condition changes, you will need a different one, and new masks are also released you want to try.

If you are a mouth breather and cannot tolerate FFM's, you most lilkely will have to tape with either a nasal or a pillows mask.

Here are two different videos concerning taping that may help:-

 - Dry mouth and mouth leaks
 - Best mouth leaking tape.

I got lucky. I was given a ResMed AirFit F20 FFM with my machine, a ResMed AirSense 10 AutoSet. They had me try the F20 mask on and it felt okay.

I used it for many months before deciding to try an F30. That performed even better. When the F40 came out, I was curious and obtained one. It too, was okay, but I still felt that the F30 worked better for me.

I have a good stock of all three AirFit masks.  Cool

I would encourage you to do some research on mouth breathing vs nasal breathing.

If you don't like tape there are a couple products called MouthShield and Somnoseal you can consider.

You may want to look at a hybrid mask also.
Breathe through your nose
Reduce sugar and processed food
Soft collar and tape
