LeakySleeper - Therapy Assistance
#21
RE: LeakySleeper - Therapy Assistance
I use a very cheap "regular Kinesiology tape is made of 95% cotton and 5% spandex" from Amazon. It comes in 2 in X 16foot rolls. I cut it into 5 in strips. It stays on my moustache and stubble, and never pulls any hair. I start from the moustache and pull down to take it off.
Maybe try using some during the day to get use to it. I do that with all my sleep gear.

Thanks again for your help.

I was wrapped up like a mummy last night! (Chinstrap, soft collar, mouth tape)

Felt like a slept like a log, woke up feeling groggy, tape came off fairly easily

REM sleep over 32%
OA's up, CA's quite high
Leaks under control

Attached some zoomed in shots of my CA's and then a shot of mixed

Your leaks are not significant, and some would say they are acceptable, but when you look at the leak spikes, you see arousals and events. It is pretty obvious in the 1st zoomed chart.
I have a similar issue where my small leaks, either a spike or a mouth leak cause arousals or events.
The other zoomed chart might have the "classic" CA event, where you breathing rate slightly diminishes and then you gasp and hold your breath.
The other looks like a small leak caused an event under 10 seconds, so not counted. Then a gasp and a CA event.
Maybe someone can help with the leaks or other issues going on that are causing your issues.
When I look at your "SleepHQ" chart, I see that the leaks line up with events all night. One thing about the nasal and pillow masks is it does not take a significant leak to compromise your therapy.
good luck.
Since he can't take a lower EPR, would a bilevel machine help lower the CAs?

Cheers - that's my thought, the lower EPR isn't fun.

Is it worth trying upping my minimum to 9 with an EPR of 3?

I have the F&P Solo mask in the box, tried it for 30 mins, but felt like I was breathing through a straw. Nasal pillows my nostrils did not enjoy.
Stuck with the Nasal Mask N20 - which doesn't irritate my nostrils.

Comfort is the name of the game as we struggle with the CPAP masks. Glad the N20 is working. Is it the foam one?
Upping the EPR to 3 might increase the CAs.

Yeah, agree. I'm comfortable, but know I can do better!

Nah, I've settled on silicone.
I tried the foam AirTouch models (F20 and N20) but leaks averaged 40l/min+
The Airfit range had a much better leak rate for both my N20 and backup full-face.

(My CPAP store lets me return unopened items for store credit, and got to use so many masks in the month-long trial)

Next month I'll chat with my sleep doctor to see what they say about the CA's - I might be stumping people or too complex Big Grin
