Melatonin
#11
RE: Melatonin
I have done Ambien CR daily on long term basis at least twice, may be a few times (at least several months straight usage). In all cases, its effectiveness faded over time to the point where I felt it wasn't doing much at all (rather than a whole night of continuous sleep, I fell back into the pattern of restless waking and inability to go back to sleep. And If I took it after a moderately large meal, it didn't seem to EVER kick in.

Each time I did the daily thing long term, I finally got to the point where I decided to just cut it off. In each case, this meant it would be probably four days straight with no sleep in spite of being tired and going to bed and maintaining good sleep hygiene. After that three-four nights of no sleep, I would fall back into a reasonably normal sleep cycle with no meds. But it was a painful few days.

I don't care what the pharmaceutical reps say, the stuff is addictive. I will still use it, but try to do no more than a few very non-consecutive nights a month. Then when I do, it seems to work wonderfully with no real after effect.
