Mouth Tape Skin Protectant

Mouth Tape Skin Protectant
Hello,

I am happily experiencing noticeably improved results (and comfort!) after switching to to nasal pillows masks, particularly the P10.
I use kinesiology tape to keep my mouth chosed and prevent leaks. Unfortunately, even with care while applying and removing the tape, I've been experiencing skin irritations such as small abrasions and redness. Has anyone found a solution to this problem such as a skin protectant that will not reduce tape efficacy? Could I possibly be stretching the tape too tightly when applying it? The tape is slightly porous and if my mouth isn't closed, I have episodes when I wake to find myself ateempting to breathe through the tape.

Thank you!

Cavilon Durable Barrier Cream... just a dab spread where the tape will be.

There are several types of adhesive barrier wipes or whatever. I am allergic to adhesives which is why I do not use mouth tape. My wife recently had cataract surgery and they taped the shield to her face. I was thinking they'd never be able to do that for me and I asked the nurse what would they do. She said they'd use one of those barriers. If I remember correctly, she said Skin-Tac wipes.

I am on my 2nd day of using Cover roll stretch tape after years of using 3M Durapore. I find the new tape works very well and seems to seal better for me, but I too am getting skin rash. I never had rash using 3M Durapore. I may look into one of the above to gain the benefit of the more comfortable stretch tape but not have rash. Or I may go back to 3M. Who knows yet. I wanted to chime in to say that a different tape may not give you a rash like the kinesiology tape is.

RE: Mouth Tape Skin Protectant
I recently had an application of kinesiology tape by a physical therapist.  She used the sensitive skin version but I still found it irritating and took it off after only two days.  I would recommend trying Cover Roll Stretch tape if you haven't already.  I used that for over two years on my face to attach padding on my upper lip where my p30i made was about to lead to a pressure sore.  I have sensitive facial skin and it didn't bother me.

One trick is that I would touch the strip of tape to another, tougher area of skin a few times before applying it to my face.  This reduced the stickiness slightly and made it easier to remove the next morning.  Cover Roll Stretch tape is amazing in its ability to stick without adhering too strongly, and it also doesn't seem to block pores the way other tape does.  Obviously it does irritate some people's skin, but it's worth trying if you haven't already.

Good luck!

I could not tolerate any good tape because my skin is extremely sensitive.  I apply liquid Milk of Magnesia (yep, the stuff for constipation) by hand to the area where the tape will sit, then let it mostly dry and apply the tape.  Painless removal in the morning. Yay!  Smile

I too use kinesiology tape and love it.  You need to have your mouth fully closed when you apply the tape, then no air can get through.

Thanks to EarlyRun, Lucid, and Deborah K for replying and providing good suggestions. I am going to try a layer of Milk of Magnesia before the tape and experiment to find which tape works best.

I tried differnt types of tape, and Sommnifix, for some reason, doesn't irritate my skin.

Also I found that any kind of stretch or tension seems to irritate me WAY more. So, I don't purse my lips or stretch the tape at all anymore. I just close my mouth in a totally neutral position and tape it, so that there's no tension or stretch. It made a big difference for me, I found that Im much more irritating by the tape pulling slightly than I am by the adhesive.
