My doctor yelled at me for changing the settings

My doctor yelled at me for changing the settings
Two years ago I dialed in my pressures so my therapy is very effective and pleasant. Today I had my yearly appointment with my sleep therapist dr. She yelled at me that I changed the settings of cpap on my own. And that I shall never do it again ever. She admitted that I have dialled them perfectly buth told me to never ever change them again! I realize its a ego yelling of hers that I did something that only she should be able to do. At the same time I got super depressed from the fact that I cant event control how I breath at night. What is my lifes remaining purpose if I cant even decide about my basic human instinct - breathing? I am super low now. Help with kind words of encouragement and tips to deal with emotion and situation.

I'd be looking for a new sleep doctor! I don't yell at my doctors and they don't yell at me.

I'm a whole lot bigger than any of them, and they know that.  Cool

My response would be "your fired". No reason to take crap from any doctor I fire them as soon as I realize that they are no better than pill pushers on the street. As long as the doctor that wrote your CPAP prescription is alive there is no need to go back again, unless insurance issues are the driver. One of many reasons that I self pay. If the doctor who wrote your sleep prescription dies then that RX is worthless.

I fired my sleep doctor when I realized that he was clueless about XPAP machine data. I made such a fuss during checkout about the doctor saying out loud that the doctor was an stupid that my wife no longer goes to any doctor with me. It is disturbing to discover how little doctors know about anything.

Worth to say I was telling her two years constantly to change my settings because my sleep is not good. She did nothing. She always just said "things are as they are". Only after those two years of my requests I dialed it on my own to perfection. (Means for two years she didn't even look at the data from the machine otherwise she would notice sooner). Now she yelled. I am highly thinking of firing her as well and buying CPAP on my own. In all manners i know the settings better than her anyway.

+1.   Team work is essential for any therapy! Egos do not change patients outcomes!

Thank you Big Fella. I might get inspired by you. Smile

She never improved my settings even if I asked. O had to take it to my hands. With support from this community. Great improvement. Doctor angry. Okay. Doctor no longer wellcome in my life.

Yep agreed. I expect the doctor to be professional. Yelling is the opposite. Fired.

Since this is supposed to be a "sleep specialist" you'll want to just talk with your primary care physician about taking up your Apnea treatment. A specialist is NOT required.

I doubt that from this point on, if you kept her as your sleep therapist, things would go well. Time to move and and find another therapist.

Fortunately my sleep doctor retired after my contentious meeting. Having my next appointment in a few months with his replacement.

I have been at this for a while, and never had a sleep specialist as my "treating physician". Her role is to design and review sleep studies. Nothing more. A sleep specialist is not needed for prescriptions or consultations. Fire this one, and ask your primary doctor to take over future needs.
