Do you take regular naps? A POLL for all of us.
Okay, this is a POLL for all of us.
The question is:
Do you usually take at least ONE NAP per week during the day that lasts 45 minutes or more? - yes or no?
Please answer within your age group.
Note: All votes are anonymous.
Thanks for your help!

After you vote in this POLL, if you chose "yes", please post a message and let us know how much you nap (number of hours, every day or just once a week etc), whether you always wear your CPAP or not and any comment you'd like to give concerning your napping.

RE: Do you take regular naps? A POLL for all of us.
I usually lay down about 11 am or so. My nap is only about an hour, give or take. By taking that nap, I find that I can better deal with the day. I don't use CPAP while napping.
There are times when I "cat nap" in my recliner. By doing so, that really helps a lot. I suppose that's the rewards of retiring and getting older.

4-5 days per week, there's an afternoon nap about 1-3 hours.
Mask Primer
Positional Apnea
Attach OSCAR, etc.

I don’t nap because it’s goes against my sleep routine I try to maintain.

I worked rotating shifts for 30 years. And, the rotations were subject to change w/o any or little notice.
It was impossible to maintain a sleep routine.
I retired in 2010. Come April 1st, it will be 15 yrs. retired. Now that I am retired, things have settled down, but it's tough to give up old habits.
RE: Do you take regular naps? A POLL for all of us.
Yes, I do nap just about every day. Some days I take 2 naps. At least one is 45 minutes or so.
I use my ventilator all night during sleep (I have for about 2 and 1/2 years now).
If I have really poor quality sleep, I may even lay right back down after my alarm clock wakes me up.
Most days I get tired mid morning to late morning (and may sneak in a nap - I have a home office and am super grateful about that).
If I eat a large lunch and it is warm, I am toast! It is very difficult for me to stay awake with this combination.
I sometimes take a nap in the afternoon as well if I am very tired.
My naps usually last anywhere between at least 30 minutes and sometimes over an hour.
Caveat: I have mitral valve prolapse, have had a very small heart attack, hypothyroidism (which slows down metabolism). I am less of a type A personality than I used to be, but I was almost a professional athlete; and I got in the habit of pushing myself incredibly hard physically at times in training (and have numerous injuries as well).
It's strange as well: sometimes when I wake up from a nap, it feels great. Sometimes it feels like I didn't even take a nap at all!

RE: Do you take regular naps? A POLL for all of us.
Used to nap , thought it was a result of CPAP non optimization.
Found this site.
Started tinkering.
Things got better, still the odd nap.
Then started waking during the night and could not get back to sleep.
Found CBT-I, Cognitive Behaviour Therapy for Sleep Apnea.
Gold Standard for Insomnia.
Napping is a no-no.
You Lose sleep drive, etc. etc.
So...
Been practicing sleep restriction and got out of bed when not able to sleep...
, and finally sleeping for 5.5 hrs straight most nights, after 6 weeks.
Still crappy Oscar charts, AND still tired/sleepy during day, BUT,
Getting used to it and hoping to continue and see where this goes..
Very interesting to see that others on this site need to nap even with CPAP optimization!?
RE: Do you take regular naps? A POLL for all of us.
The next poll should be…….. How many times do you wake up during the night? Same format.
RE: Do you take regular naps? A POLL for all of us.
It's reassuring to know that others take naps. I was kind of thinking that I was the odd man out. We can sleep thru the night w/o any issues or problems.
We usually go to bad about 9 pm. We sleep until 8:30 or so. I've heard over & over that "Power Naps" (cat naps) can be good for you, as long as they aren't too long. I take them in my recliner. They really do make a difference.
