New Member and CPAP User - Few Question
Hello, I am new to the board and sleep apnea. A little history I was recently diagnosed with severe sleep apnea with 37 events per my sleep study. I have been on for over a month and have a few questions and uploading 4 of my last days of my sleep history. I have a Resmed Airsense 11 auto, i was prescribed pressure between 10-20, and using a Resmed airfit p10 resmed pillow mask. I feel the treatment has been successful so far however I am still having some symptoms that we are trying to figure out. Before treatment and into treatment I am getting a vertigo/light headiness at times. I have been through a ton of tests with the doctors and have had low iron which they think now I also have restless leg syndrome since the low iron. Not sure if anyone else can relate to anything along those lines. Also, since I have started CPAP i have gained almost 25 lbs in less then a month and acutally have started working out again and even started seriously following my diet but does not seem to be helping. Not sure if something in my treatment might be causing some of these things or if I might need a few tweaks to my treatment. I have attached a few pics from oscar. Thanks for any help in advance I hope this is enough information.

RE: New Member and CPAP User - Few Question
Welcome to the forum,
Great job getting acclimated so quickly. Can you post a copy of your sleep report with your personal info redacted? Any health issues affecting your breathing or sleep? Any medications affecting your breathing or sleep? Your ramp pressure is too low for an adult, you need at least 7 cm of pressure. You can probably drop ramp to 5 minutes, and when you feel comfortable turn ramp off. You get no therapy pressure increases with ramp on. Are you using lanolin to protect your nostrils? You have mouth leaks that might be affecting your therapy, consider using a 2x 5 strip of Kinesiology tape, regular original cotton elastic athletic tape. or a SomNoSeal device. a soft, flexible mouthpiece that prevents mouth breathing and dry mouth during sleep.

Thanks for the response It was not bad took about 2 weeks to get acclimated.
I can get a copy and post the sleep study I have to get a copy. I do not have any health issues or medication issues that I am aware of. I will look at adjusting those settings on the machine. I used lanolin for the first few weeks now it does not bother me or irritate my nose. Which area can you tell about the mouth leaks and how bad they are I am new to reading the oscar charts, I do not really have dry mouth compared to when I didnt have cpap it was horrible before now hardly noticeable . Also, what is more preferred to try the tape or a mouth piece for the leaks I will look into both new to all this and wonder what some opinions are.

RE: New Member and CPAP User - Few Question
On the 11th, I see nice sessions of gentle breathing, awesome job, but nasal pillows seem to "amplify" the effects of minor leaks, imo. I think the goal should be more of that with periodic REM sessions of erratic breathing like around 0:10 and 2: 30,
REM breathing can show up as peaks in the tidal chart The raised flat leaks around 12:30 made your breathing a bit spiky, larger breaths and more so around 4:30. I use both the somnoseal and the mouth tape. I grind my teeth, so I use a mouth guard also

any specific brand of the Kinselilogy Tape? And recommendations? There are so many out there not sure what would work best with a gotee.

RE: New Member and CPAP User - Few Question
I have good success with this very cheap tape, I use the grid pattern to cut 2x5 in strips. you may need wider strips with the goatee.
If the tape is tough to use, consider a SomNoSeal, flexible mouthpiece that prevents mouth breathing and dry mouth during sleep. It fits just behind the lips, not a mouth guard, but a very thin piece. https://www.amazon.com/dp/B0BJ248CVZ?ref...tle_1&th=1 https://www.somnoseal.com/ |
