RE: CPAP Substitute While Camping or Traveling
My own experience with a mandibular advancement device is that it does help (some), but the semi-custom ones are bulky. Even the custom ones require adjustment to get the jaw where it needs to be to open the airway. Expect several weeks of iffy at best sleep to get them adjusted and you used to them. They will make you drool. And they will not work as well as your CPAP for oxygenation. (Important to consider if you are traveling to high altitude boonies)
I regularly travel with my CPAP. It does not count as a carry-on, as it is a medical device. I was astonished at how many other ResMed cases there were, and got a luggage tag to identify mine in the overhead. The portable battery power stations (Google CPAP batteries) can charge from a car if you are on a road trip.
