New to CPAP, Not sure I'm Using it Correctly

New to CPAP, Not sure I'm Using it Correctly
Hi,

I'm never used a CPAP device before.

So I own the Prisma 20A with a Philips Nasal mask called Wisp. The size of chosen of the mask, according to the scale that came with the mask, is medium.

While I am aware that I'm suppose to breath only through my nose, but when I'm wearing the mask - I feel sufficated. When I turn either left or right - I feel sufficated as if my nasal holes are blocked. When I open my mouse slightly, it gets a tad better, but I still experience discomfort.
When I run the mask leak test, I can hardly breath (12 airflow PSI).

I'm not really sure what I'm suppose to ask other than if what I described is normal.

I'd really appreciate any input on this.

Thanks in advance,

Paul

Welcome to Apnea Board!

Did you have a Sleep Test?  If yes, please post a redacted copy of personal information here for review.  How did you arrive at the pressure of 12?

Your machine offers a feature called SoftPAP.  Are you utilizing it?  This feature may help you breathe out against the pressure easier.  Set it at 2 if you can.

Mask fit is important.  Have you tried a larger size nasal cushion.  That may relieve the feeling of suffocation.

You also may need a bit higher pressure.  If we could see some data from your machine, we'd be better informed to advise.

The Prisma 20A may be partially supported by the OSCAR software.  Download it and be sure you have an SD card in your Cpap while sleeping.  After gathering a couple days data, post a screenshot of the daily page in OSCAR.

Use the first two links in my signature line below to guide you.

Also, you can order a clinicians manual here:

The manual is what your provider uses to access the "secret menu" to enable you to change your pressures according to your needs.

Plus it explains how to use your Cpap in general.

The manual is free.

Until you download Oscar and post an Oscar chart, I don't think anyone can tell you much from what you posted.

Best wishes for achieving great therapy and comfort! Smile
