New to CPAP, hope it gets better.

New to CPAP, hope it gets better.
1st time poster but been reading a lot.

Recently had a sleep study done, because my wife says i sometimes stop breathing in the middle of the night, and received a AHI score >80. Oxygen levels got into the 60%, most of the time i wake up a little groggy but my energy was fine through out the day but Dr recommended i get a CPAP.

I signed up for a CPAP trial, I have a Resmed Airsense 11 with a P30i mask and last night was rough. Couldn't get to sleep, at times felt like i was suffocating so had to open my mouth to breath to adjust my breathing, exhaling seemed difficult when i was trying to get to sleep. Eventually i fell asleep but woke up a few hours earlier than i normally do. Machine says my AHI went down to 2.84, i guess that's good but it was a sh**ty sleep. It's early days, hoping it gets better. Attached is my Oscar results, any suggestion would be welcomed.

RE: New to CPAP, hope it gets better.
Welcome

Yes, it will definitely get better. Lots of people have a hard start, but go on to achieve real comfort.

Your median pressure is over 12, and you're bumping up a lot against your top pressure, so let's set your pressure range at 10 to 20.

You need to use EPR, a form of pressure support that makes breathing more comfortable and helps keep flow limits low. Your flow limits are very high. I suggest you set your EPR at full-time, set at 3.

It appears that you are using ramp, but you need to turn the pressure up to 7 and see how you sleep and feel with that setting. Post another Oscar once you have done those things and tell us how you feel, and we'll help you take it from there.

If these changes feel too overwhelming, once you have tried them, let us know, and we can back off a bit and give you time to adjust.

Again, welcome, and best wishes for achieving great therapy and comfort! Smile
