New to board; please help me prepare for my appointment with sleep specialist

RE: New to board; please help me prepare for my appointment with sleep specialist
I was wrong about the leak. There is no leak. It is the intentional vent, just as Sleeprider said.

So I've tried this thing for two nights. The good news is I am now able to fall asleep with the CPAP mask on. However, my sleep is brief and I have been taking the mask off in the middle of the night. Overall I feel more exhausted than I did before I started using the CPAP.

Any tips?

I'm going to change the pressure to 6-9 cmH20. I am hoping lower pressure will help me get some sleep. The setting I used last night (12 cmH20) was not therapeutic because I was unable to sleep more than an hour or two.

Talk to your DME and explain that you find the noise from your mask vent intolerable. As I mentioned in my last post there are alternatives that are much quieter. With regard to sleep quality, we may be able to help you get better sleep with some setting changes, but you will need to post a chart or two from OSCAR.

This is a free software, easy to use, and can really provide insights into your therapy. Perhaps we can find a way to make you more comfortable. Your Resmed Airsense 10 Autoset is a very good machine, and it has a lot of tools available that can increase comfort. Your current software MyAir simply does not provide the information needed to improve or troubleshoot your therapy. There could be a serious issue and MyAir cannot and will not help. Links to OSCAR are at the top of this page.

OK, I will look into OSCAR. Just to clarify: the noise from my mask vent is fine. I have no issues with the noise. I am hopeful that lowering the air pressure will make it easier for me to sleep.

This is where OSCAR can make a big difference. Pressure is rarely disruptive at the pressures you are using. What can help is knowing why you are being aroused. Respiratory effort from flow limitation, apena and hypopnea are all reasons sleep can be disrupted. With a view of the charts, we can coach you towards more comfort using more or less pressure or EPR. You are simply flying blind without the data.

My CPAP machine did not come with a SD card. I have a 16GB SD card. May I use this?

That should work fine. Just erase the card or format to FAT32.

OK. I formatted the card and inserted it into the machine. Is that all there is to it? Then upload the data to my computer tomorrow?

Yes. Of course, you will need to install the Oscar software first. The link is in Sleeprider's signature line. I didn't read the guide first and should have, so I do recommend that. Let us know if there are any hitches.
