PHILIPS' RESPONSIVENESS TO THE RECALL

I share your disgust for Philips' responses to date. "All is solved" seems to be the message that Phillips has convinced many users, agencies and the news media.
Whether a recalled device owner has already received a replacement, or is scheduled to receive a replacement over the next 12-18 months, or is registered but not to be given a replacement because Philips considers their device as "shelved" (not current with Philips cloud data), recalled device owners should consider additional actions rather than continue to live with the frustration, uncertainties, worries and concerns related to the consequences associated with Philips defective devices and delayed (or absent) replacement solutions.
Even following a possible replacement solution, there may still be a health impact eventually through the significant use of Philips defective PAP systems.
RE: RECALL THREAD-- IMPORTANT PHILIPS DREAMSTATION & SYSTEM ONE USERS
My DS2 dropped on my door step today, now what?
I'm not really happy they sent me a DS2 to replace my 6 month old DS1, I though the DS1 worked well.
I did pick up a Resmed10 (used) so I'm good, for now anyway.
My main question for those who received a DS2 what are your plans for using it, or maybe better asked what are you going to do with it?
I'm been looking at the un-opened box thinking what should I do with this thing. From some of the reading around here the DS2 is not getting much love, I'm not sure I even want to open the box.
My first thought is to not even open the box and trade it as a new unit for another new unit, if that is even possible I have no clue (maybe get 50 cents on the dollar!). I'm within days of my first year of therapy, maybe my DME would have some options, not holding my breath as they were not very helpful from the start of this debacle.
Thoughts?

I personally would send a DS2 back. It's of zero use to me. A DS1 I might keep, but I'd probably send it back too. I got my money's worth out of the System One 60 and will remove or replace the foam it before going to a DS.
So I'd return a DS to get it to others in need. I got a good deal on an AS10 recently so I don't need it.

It's a free machine, do you have an adequate backup?
A backup would never replace a primary as all machines are different, but it's close enough until you can replace the primary. use it for a backup.
RE: RECALL THREAD-- IMPORTANT PHILIPS DREAMSTATION & SYSTEM ONE USERS
If you are serviced by a DME, you might inquire whether they will accept the unopened machine in trade for a Resmed Airsense 10 Autoset.
RE: RECALL THREAD-- IMPORTANT PHILIPS DREAMSTATION & SYSTEM ONE USERS
Yes it's good to have a backup. I got my Dreamstation 4 years and 9 months ago. At about 16 months I ran that onboard performance check and it failed so was replaced. Then when the replacement was about a year
old I ran the performance check and the replacement failed so it too was replaced. So when they send me
a replacement for my current one that will be a replacement for the replacement for the replacement ! If it wasn't so serious it would be funny. But being a hoarder when the recall was announced I just pulled my very old but almost unused ResMed S8 auto out and used it till I got a new Resmed 10 aircurve Vauto .

I do have a backup the Resmed10 (that I bought as a replacement) that could be my primary too really.
I wish is was a "free" machine, I had to overpay to get a used one then they replaced my 6 month old DS1 with the DS2, I kind of think the DS2 is a step backwards from what I read. I am making some assumptions as I have not tried it yet, box is still up-opened
I consider myself one of the lucky ones, was able to find something to use and did not have years with a bad device.

I may do this just to see what they say.
I have worked with 2 DME's, the Phillips people are my original sleep doc/DME, they kinda of left me hanging when this all started. I don't think they sold anything other than a Phillips shop, not sure. The DME's where I got the used Resmed was good work with.
To rub salt in the wound, I was just going to get a new Resmed for a second machine just before this all blew up. I could have got a new machine online for the same price I paid for the used one before they jacked the pricing.

Philips CPAP Recall Support Group
This story adds a whole new wrinkle to the replacement fiasco:
I live in Australia. I got a phone call from Philips this morning and apparently, they are going to replace the front end of my machine.
They said when it arrives they will walk me through how to attach the tank and the back end of my old machine to the new front they send me.
I thought they would replace the whole machine with the dream station 2 which is black in color.
The front end they are sending me is NOT the dream station 2 it is the dream station 1 (the same color as the one I have) with a different foam inside.
I’m a bit worried. I asked them if the one they are sending me is a reconditioned one. They told me it is not. They are telling me it is new with different foam.

They are still making DS1 BiPAP and ASV machines. The DS2 versions are not yet approved (at least not in the USA).
I don't think they have received enough returns yet nor have they had time to refurbish them and be sending out.
They stopped production early in the recall, then once the new foam was approved started making them with the new foam.
And they could easily do other DS1 machines (just different software) but the DS2 is probably cheaper to make.
