Nostril Irritation with P30i Makes Me Remove Mask Midway Through Night
Hi everyone,

I'm DreamRider, new to the forum and just starting my CPAP journey. I began therapy only 1 week ago using the ResMed P30i nasal pillow mask (small size). I have no problems falling asleep with it on, but I consistently wake up about 3-4 hours later with irritation in one of my nostrils. This irritation leads me to remove the mask for the rest of the night.

I've tried alternatives like the ResMed N30i and F20, but I really prefer the P30i for comfort and overall fit. I'm just struggling with this specific nostril irritation issue that's preventing me from keeping it on all night.

Has anyone else experienced this problem with the P30i? What solutions have worked for you? I'm wondering if there are ways to reduce the irritation without switching masks entirely.

Any tips or suggestions would be greatly appreciated!

Thanks,
DreamRider

DreamRider,
Many of us get relief by using a liberal amount of lanolin.
Do you have a hose holder? That takes quite a bit of hose weight off your nostrils as you move around at night
In addition I switch out and use a larger size cushion that doesn't go as deep into my nostrils. I don't get leaks.
Good luck.

The larger size cushion was a surprising recent success. I have ordered two more yesterday.
Good luck

Reporting back that my nostril irritation is gone and I can comfortably sleep with the mask on.

I ended up using the same size cushion but the lanolin did wonders. I also realised that I had my straps too tight so I loosened them considerably. At first it felt too loose, like the mask would leak but it didn’t. Now I sometimes wake up through the night and think that my machine is off because the mask fit has become very comfortable.

After using leaking noisy full face masks for years, I also had to check my machine to see if it was on, when I switched to the P10 nasal pillows.

That Lanolin is great stuff. Soothes the skin and also acts like a gasket to help seal.

And not noticing you have a mask on is a GREAT result.

Well done.
