OSCAR Profile Renaming?

RE: OSCAR Profile Renaming?
OSCAR Profile Renaming Procedure
=================================

As there is no built-in procedure for renaming a profile in OSCAR,
this manual procedure may be used instead:

NOTE!!  When editing files as instructed below, Always make a backup copy of
each file before making any changes.  Also, ALWAYS use a text editor such
as Notepad or Xed to make the changes.  DO NOT use a Word Processor program,
as the file will likely be corrupted and destroyed.

In this example the original profile is named "Alan", and the new name will
be "AlanS9".  To use this example, replace "Alan" and "AlanS9" as needed.

1) Close OSCAR if open.

2) Find the OSCAR data structure.  In this example, it was found in:
    /home/alan/Documents/OSCAR_Data.
  In Windows or Mac the path location will be different.

3) Edit the file .../OSCAR_Data/Preferences.xml
  Change the line:
    <Profile type="QString">Alan</Profile>
  to read:
    <Profile type="QString">AlanS9</Profile>
  Save and close the file.

4) Edit the file .../OSCAR_Data/profiles.xml
  Change the line:
    <profile path="{home}/Profiles/Alan/Profile.xml" name="Alan"/>
  to read:
    <profile path="{home}/Profiles/AlanS9/Profile.xml" name="AlanS9"/>
  Save and close the file.

  Note that this edit may not be required, as there is a comment
  in the file that it is not used by Desktop OSCAR.

5) Edit the file .../OSCAR_Data/Profiles/Alan/Profile.xml.
  Change the line:
    <UserName type="QString">Alan</UserName>
  to read:
    <UserName type="QString">AlanS9</UserName>
  Save and close the file.

6) In .../OSCAR_Data/Profiles, rename the profile directory.
  In this case, rename directory "Alan" to "AlanS9".

7) Open OSCAR, check that the renamed profile is appropriately recognized.
  All imported data and statistics should appear as expected.

RE: OSCAR Profile Renaming?
That's excellent Alan. Do you mind if I include it in the Oscar wiki?

A couple of minor points:

Step 3) is not strictly necessary - this entry in .../OSCAR_Data/Preferences.xml tells Oscar which profile to open in, and is re-set every time Oscar is executed. If the string does not match an existing profile Oscar opens in the profile page (otherwise it opens in the Welcome page).

Step 5 fixes the user name. There are sometimes two other locations which have the name from the profile, <FirstName type="QString"> and <UserName type="QString"> , but these don't affect the execution of Oscar (except for an incorrect name in the profile).

Thanks, DB,
You're welcome to use any or all of the procedure however you wish.

RE: OSCAR Profile Renaming?
Thanks again Alan. It's now in the wiki at this address: http://www.apneaboard.com/wiki/index.php...ofile_Name

Note that I might look at restructuring this part of the wiki later to separate out the profile procedures from importing data for the first time.

Edit: I've rearranged the pages somewhat. The profile page is now here: http://www.apneaboard.com/wiki/index.php...ofile_Page

Hi DB,
Huge thanks for the wiki work - I'm sure that it will be found by more people being in the wiki than buried in this post.  I'll be glad if someone finds it useful.

RE: OSCAR Profile Renaming?
I have now finished testing the treatment modes in my new Airsense 10 Autoset For Her unit.  For results see: http://www.apneaboard.com/forums/Thread-...rapy-Modes

During those experiments, I created some temporary profiles to isolate statistics  and no longer need to keep them.  Then I discovered there is no function in OSCAR to delete a profile.  So I developed the following as a companion procedure to the one above for Renaming a profile.  I hope this may be useful for someone.

OSCAR - Manual Procedure for Deleting a profile
===========================================================
As there is no built-in procedure for deleting an obsolete profile in OSCAR,
this manual procedure may be used instead:

1) Find the OSCAR data structure.  In this example, it was found in:
    /home/alan/Documents/OSCAR_Data.
  In Windows or Mac the path location will be different.

2) Open OSCAR, select and open a profile that is to be kept.  Then close OSCAR.
  This insures that the file .../OSCAR_Data/Preferences.xml will not contain a
  reference to the profile to be deleted.

3) Backup or archive the profile(s) to be deleted, if appropriate.

4) In .../OSCAR_Data/Profiles, delete the profile directory structures for the
  profile(s) to be removed..

5) Open OSCAR, check that the deleted profile(s) are no longer listed.
  All retained imported data and statistics should appear as expected.

In the profile selection screen there is a button that is labeled "Destroy Profile".  Did that not remove the profile(s) completely?

RE: OSCAR Profile Renaming?
Hi Jeff,
I simply didn't see that button, since it wasn't grouped with the other buttons.  I should have looked better.
