Old CPAP bricks vs Auto machine

Old CPAP bricks vs Auto machine
Long term user of CPAP diagnosed 25 years ago, I knew I had a problem when I fell asleep standing on the railway platform edge waiting for a London Underground train (subway). The settings on my old fixed pressure machines, Fisher Paykel and DeVill, have always been 8cm water, and I felt just fine. So my new ResMed machine was set to 8cm for CPAP operation. Results were dire AHI 18, so I'm wondering were my old bricks more efficient at managing the sleep apnea - they certainly sounded loud with powerful pumps?

To get good therapy I'm now at c.11cm fixed after some trial and error - so all things being equal (or maybe not) it does seem that newer machines may need a higher pressure for good therapy, or could just be an age thing.  My latest AHI is 0.8 per hour.

BTW I did try auto but got no sleep for two nights, and changed partway through the night to my old brick.

Thanx Gideon, more of an observation really. But I will try out APAP shortly, I've been on the new machine just four nights, so it's early days - I'll be checking out OSCAR when I have some worthwhile data, but currently happy with an AHI of 0.8.

Cheers.
