Please help with high leak rate

RE: Please help with high leak rate
sorry, no, I haven't really given it much thought and it sounds like even the old hands aren't sure either, but there's no question I get fewer ca with a high trigger and even fewer at very high. I still get them, just not as often or as many. if those ca are bothering you, or even if you're just curious, I say nothing ventured nothing gained. to my knowledge there's no risk beyond finding it uncomfortable. if it helps, great. if not, now you know and you can go back to an earlier setting. the choice is yours.

in the interest of full disclosure, I also increased my ti max to 3.0 because I felt my exhales were being truncated. I have not studied up enough on either ti max or trigger sensitivity to know if I'm using them correctly and why these settings seem to help me, but the bottom line is they have.

Thanks sheepless, it is difficult to figure out why it would reduce centrals.  Maybe someone will be along to give some insight. I will consider trying the very high setting.

RE: Please help with high leak rate
Glad to see Sheepless provided this response. I changed my own machine to a high Trigger sensitivity to resolve CA events related to pressure support. It worked...really well. I can't give you a defensible scientific reason, but it works, and I have made this recommendation to many other members using the Vauto that experience random unexplained CA.

Ok SR, glad to hear it has worked for you also.  Have you ever tried the very high trigger setting?

Never needed to do that. I have no idea what that would do.

RE: Please help with high leak rate
yankees,
I haven't been using a VAuto for very long, so hesitate to give advice in that area.  One thing that stood out for me going from a Respironics Apap to the VAuto was the Clear Airways that kept popping up.  Not a lot of them, and my AHI was under 2, but it was something I didn't experience on my prior machine.

So taking my cue from others here, I decided to raise the Trigger setting from Medium to High,  and it worked.
I don't know why it worked, and I haven't found anyone else that knows either.  As a matter of fact, some of those settings on the VAuto aren't talked about much.

I just figured if it didn't make a difference or I was uncomfortable, then I would just change it back.

I also have no reason to set it to Very High, but I don't see any reason for you not to try it.  You would know if you are uncomfortable in any way or if there were no real difference, then just reset it to what you had prior.

Just be sure to make one change at a time, so you can get a feel for what works.

RE: Please help with high leak rate
OpalRose, I will definitely consider changing to very high if my centrals continues to increase.  Thanks for your advice .
