RE: Ramp on/off question
That’s because it is the same 4cm upon exhaling even after the ramp time expires. So in reality your ramp was doing nothing.
However, 4cm is a very low setting appropriate for children.
The ‘theory’ of the ramp setting is so one can avoid trying to go to sleep with 10,12cm. But you will find that most on this forum do not use it and do not recommend it. Why? Because it offers no therapy at all and folks get used to the average 9-10cm min and epr of 2-3 pretty quickly.
RE: Questions about ResMed 11
The heater must take a while to cool down and small amounts of water must evaporate. The tank bottom is a homogeneous molded cup and you'd see leaking which is not likely.
RE: Ramp on/off question
The ResMed F30i is still a full face, but a hybrid variant. ResMed masks with F in the name equals Full Face, N for nasal, P for Pillows.
You could increase your minimum, between 7 and 8, to increase your base amount of air. Leave EPR 3 full time on. The ResMed has steps of .2 for pressures.

RE: Ramp on/off question
The introduction of hybrid masks has been great for me as an alternative to full-face masks. My F40 hybrid has allowed me to adjust min. pressure up with few leaks. The mask functions like a nasal mask until I mouth breathe and it's during mouth breathing when clusters of AHI 70 apneas occur. I had tried taping, chin straps, and a collar without success. I like not having a mask over my nose now.
Last night I turned on EPR at 1 and flow limitations went down so I will try EPR 2 tonight. EPR makes exhaling easier and reduces my flow limitations. If my min pressure is not high enough, EPR causes loss of therapy for positional apnea clusters. I am learning to raise min and lower max for the most effective settings as opposed to the 8-20 my machines had been set for many years. The narrowed settings are making a dramatic difference in lowering AHI scores.

RE: Ramp on/off question
I am trying the F30i so I can also breath through my mouth. Feels to unnatural to me to only breath through my nose.
my minimum is currently at 7, thinking about bumping it up a click or 2. I am not sure what you mean that the Resmed has steps of .2 ??
RE: Ramp on/off question
Your ResMed machine has pressure settings that step through .2 L/Min increments. If your min is 7.0 you can edit up a .2 step to become 7.2 instead of whole number steps of 7 to 8.

RE: Ramp on/off question
Ok I did not know I could up the minimum pressure by a fraction of 1cm. Thanks for telling me.
Question about going from nasal mask to hybrid full
I’m very new to PAP. I started with a nasal mask. A ResMed N30i. I have not been crazy about it because I have to wear a chin strap because I tend to mouth breathe. I’ve have had the machine 10 days and have not been able to actually sleep with it yet. So I asked to try a hybrid full face mask so I can breath through my mouth as well as nose. I thought it would feel more natural. It’s a Airfit F30i.
The RT said minimum pressure for such a mask should be 7 which I already had my ResMed auto 11 set on. Ramp is off. It’s on auto set and EPR @ 3.
Does this all sound ok?
RE: Question about going from nasal mask to hybrid full
I went through a couple of different masks and types in the beginning as well.
Here at ApneaBoard, a pressure of at least 7 minimum is usually suggested for adults so they don't feel "air starved". A few people need pressure lower than that, but 7 is a good place to start (good recommendation by your RT IMO). You can always change pressure up or down from 7 as well.
Ramp off you can try as well.
This experiment should show which type of mask that you favor.

RE: Question about going from nasal mask to hybrid full
My first night with the F30i mask was a success in my opinion. I managed to fall asleep for the first time after 10 days of being new to cpap and made it until about 4am. I kept having leaks for some reason; didn’t try to figure out why then & took the mask off. Maybe it’s my imagination but I did notice I felt different, better actually than I usually do when I wake up.
