Would a change in pressure be expected
I have central sleep apnea and breath through my mouth. I was doing fairly well using Air Sense 10 with my Res Med AirTouch F20 full face mask but just changed to the Air Fit F30 which is smaller and fits under my nose and on top of my moustache. It seems more comfortable but I am still getting used to it to working on getting a good fit; moustache is an issue at times. But the pressure seems too much whereas it was fine before, at 12. Should pressure be expected to be less or might I try indicating that this is not a full face mask since it really is not but it isnt' a nasal pillow either, more a hybrid.

RE: Would a change in pressure be expected
The hybrid masks are considered full face since they allow breathing through both the nose and the mouth. You mentioned having central sleep apnea. I assume your machine is an autoset since you show a min and max pressure. Are you seeing AHI values below 5 and feeling rested? Was your central apnea diagnosed in an overnight study in a sleep lab?

RE: Would a change in pressure be expected
I've read often enough here that ffm's can require more pressure than other masks. however, the first thing to check is whether you adjusted the mask (type) setting in options. menu options in the resmed are pillow, full face and pillow. sounds like your setting with new mask should be nasal.

RE: Would a change in pressure be expected
Resmed describes the Airfit F30 as a full face mask.

AHI always below 5 usually below 2 but feeling most rested when leakage is low. Diagnosed in lab and titrated there.
yes on Autoset with 30 min ramp time i kept setting on my machine to full face mask

despite the auto, a pressure of 12 I believe is set as max

RE: Would a change in pressure be expected
Look at the manufactures fit video, usually good mask specific hints there. The two most common issues with masks are
1. the Mask is not the right mask for you. 2. The mask is applied too tight Read the Mask Primer. Why do you say the pressure is too much? Is this just the "feel" of the pressure? Does it hurt? Or is this a response because of the data? Either way download OSCAR and upload your daily charts (see my signature for the organization of the charts). That will enable us to provide much better responses.

RE: Would a change in pressure be expected
thank you.
Just the feel of the pressure makes me feel it is too much, not the reports. I appreciate your help and will download OSCAR

RE: Would a change in pressure be expected
When changing between different models of full face mask I have found that slight pressure adjustments are required for both comfort and efficacy. I think the volume of air within the mask body makes quite a difference to the perceived pressure.

RE: Would a change in pressure be expected
DB is right in that perceived pressure is different with different sized masks.
A CPAP machine is designed to deliver a constant pressure. APAPs vary that "constant" pressure. They increase flow to compensate for all the leaks and venting. I have no doubt that you are sensing a difference. Do an experiment so you can understand the level of pressures used in a CPAP. Get a tall glass of water, at least 8 inches deep. Now blow bubbles. Did you have any problems? Didn't think so. That is the maximum pressure your CPAP is designed to produce which is 20 cmw.
