RAINOUT AFFECTING MY LUNGS- HELP PLEASE
Desperate for help. My lungs are being affected and today I am struggling to breathe from all the rainout going into my lungs.
I am constantly either coughing from the water and have dry mouth every single day. Or I get stuffy, congested nose with a headache.
What am I doing wrong? What am I missing? Is it the coldness in the bedroom? I already called Resmed and was told " I can't tell you what to set your machine at".
Facts: I'm a long time CPAP user (years). I am in Arizona where it's very dry (dry as low as 19-21% in the house). I use a Resmed Airsense 10 Auto Set and been using this for over 3 years. I use Bleep Eclipse Halos mask.
I have been using a bedroom standalone humidifier for over 3 years with no issues affecting the CPAP machine. It doesn't blow out water, only air.
Temperature in the bedroom is between 62-68 degrees. I don't turn on heat in the house and don't sleep with the windows open if bedroom humidifier is on.
Problem:Over the last 6 months, out of the blue, I am experiencing severe rainout every night. Nothing has changed with the mask, the machine, my house.
Things I have tried:
1. Moving the machine almost to the floor on a very low table. Hanging the hose high up enough so any water would drop down into the machine. This did nothing.
2. Adjusting humidity, adjusting tube heat, turning off both, turning off just one. This did nothing.
3. I have a hose cover and I have wrapped every inch of the hose with thick towels, sleep with the hose under my covers- nothing works.
4. Turned off CPAP humidity and left water in - still got rainout.
5. Turned off CPAP humidity with no water - still got rainout.
For months, I write down on my phone what temp/humidity level I use and this rainout never leaves. I'm at my wits end.

Wow, sounds like you are doing everything that you need to do. I don't have a clue as to what is going on with your rain out.
I live in N. AZ. and never any issues with it.
But......fear not......others much better versed will be along to help.

Thanks. I hope so.

I would prefer not having to pay a co-pay of $80 to the sleep center.
It's weird, isn't it? Are you in Flag where it's colder? I'm near Mesa.

We're here in Dewey, just about 5 miles or so south of Prescott Valley on Hwy 69.

Got it.

"5. Turned off CPAP humidity with no water - still got rainout. "
Just guessing at this...........
Any evidence the hose has collected water that has condensed and remained at a low point in the hose and gets pushed through with air flow? Unless you've already checked this somehow, I might suspect the heating part of the hose may have failed and is not preventing or minimizing the condensation rainout within the hose. Try removing the hose from the machine and let it hang straight down and see any water drips out. Secondly, with the hose cover on the hose or under a pillow so heat is retained, set the humidity to a low setting and the tube temperature to a high setting. Run the machine for a while and see if the hose feels warm where you have it covered. If you have a spare hose that would be something to try as well.

Hi. thanks for your response. No water is remaining as far as I can tell. Every morning I disconnect hose and mask and hang them up to dry out.
I do have a 2nd hose. I will go check this out right now to ensure no water is in there. Could water be stuck inside the machine?
I've used two machines so far and I just got a replacement third to see if it happens again. So far rainout on both machines.
I'll be back to post the results. Thanks.

If you think water is going into your lungs you need to see a doctor asap.

@Bill, This isn't helpful at all.
RE: RAINOUT AFFECTING MY LUNGS- HELP PLEASE
Hi, luigi
I use a p30i mask and usually have no problems. However, when the air is very humid and the temperature in my bedroom drops below 68, I get condensation in the nasal cushion. Usually it doesn't get into my nose and I only notice it when I take my mask off and water runs out onto my face. Fortunately for me, this doesn't happen very often, and the water isn't getting into my nose when I sleep.
It's probably worth figuring out where the condensation is occurring, that is, in the tube or in the mask. If it's happening in the tube, then it seems most likely that the tube might not be heating properly, as was suggested, or that your room is getting too cold for the tube to compensate adquately.
If it's happening in the mask, I would try heating the room just a touch, or turning off the standalone humidifier, if that's an option.
