Remote power button?

Remote power button?
Hi folks,

'Happy' CPAP user for years, with multiple makes/model machines. First time posting to a forum for CPAP users! (seems overdue  Thinking-about)

I'm aware of the auto on/off features of many machines that sense you start breathing or take the mask off.

What I'm looking for is the ability to hard-wire a remote start/stop on/off switch, so that I can press it to turn off the flow BEFORE taking my mask off.

Has anyone seen or hacked a switch/button to their CPAP?

Thanks

-John
P.S. I have a AirSense 10 and Dreamstation.

Sounds interesting.  Although, where would you keep this remote while sleeping?  Thinking-about

I envision myself rolling over on it, and probably would fling it off the bed.

Just wondering, are you unable to just reach over and press the button on the Cpap to stop it?

BTW, Welcome to Apnea Board!

Thanks for the welcome and the reply OpalRose!

My home nightstand is a bit far from the bed, and in the RV it will be in an overhead cabinet (door open).

If I had a remote button I'd just stick it to the headboard or wall over my head, so I could reach up and press it.

I would look for a power cord extension with a switch. You can shut down the instrument's power. I do it regularly but for a different reason. No harm has been done yet.

Thank for the idea, that's a reasonable approach, it may come to that.
I think the main thing I'd be sacrificing there is the automatic hose drying function that happens, I think mine continued to run [soft whisper] air for about 15 minutes afterwards.

Operating your ResMed while it is in an overhead cabinet of the RV, might potentially lead to Rainout. You may be better off with it sitting lower than your pillow.

Be aware that if you cut power to the unit to turn it off, you will likely lose data. These devices have an auto shutoff when you take off the mask that takes about 10 seconds. I can think of a number of smart switches or plugs that could be used, however sudden loss of power will prevent the device from writing data or performing its normal cool-down cycle.

Agreed, not my plan 'A' for sure. I'll probably take it apart and hard-wire a switch before I did that.

I agree that having your machine above your head will almost certainly cause serious rainout into your mask.  I wouldn't risk it unless you turn the humidification entirely off.

Thanks Deborah, I appreciate the concern. While traveling in my previous RV I've had the CPAP on a shelf over my head for years and never had that issue, but I'll be sure to keep it in mind.
