ResMed AirCurve 10 ASV

ResMed AirCurve 10 ASV
Can anyone tell me what the difference is between the settings for Min and Max EPAP  vs  Min and Max PS in the Clinician Setting menu on the ResMed AirCurve 10 ASV?  I notice that the Min PS setting only goes to 6, whereas the Min EPAP setting goes to 9.

What's the difference between the two kinds of settings?

RE: ResMed AirCurve 10 ASV
EPAP min and max is the range of pressure settings for the expiratory positive air pressure. The minimum can be set from 4.0 to 15.0. We use EPAP to hold the airway patent against obstruction during exhale. Minimum PS or pressure support on the Resmed can be set from 0 to 15 and the maximum pressure support can be set to the minimum PS plus 5.0. Resmed does not allow minimum and maximum PS to be equal, so if we set PS min to 3.0, PS max must be at least 8.0. EPAP plus pressure support is IPAP. the minimum PS is used for comfort and easier breathing, and the maximum PS is used to help supplement ventilation in the event of hypopnea, periodic breathing or a central apnea. The Resmed ASV can change the amount of pressure support applied between the minimum and maximum setting on a breath by breath basis. Default settings in ASV Auto mode are EPAP min 4.0, EPAP max 15.0, PS min 3.0 and PS max 15.0. This will result in a potential range of 7.0/4.0 (inhale exhale) to 25.0/15.0. The machine generally will not exceed 23 cm in auto ASV mode.

Your profile indicates you have a Philips Respironics 60 Series Auto BiPAP. ASV settings are not relevant to that machine. Can you clarify what you need to know?

RE: ResMed AirCurve 10 ASV
EPAP is the airflow that keeps your airway open while pressure support is the difference between EPAP and IPAP. PS in the case of an ASV tends to be used to combat the Central component in conjunction with the unique ASV algorithm controlling it.
