ResMed Airfit F20 mask nose irritation - solution?
#1
Question
ResMed Airfit F20 mask nose irritation - solution?
Greetings, I have been using the Resmed F20 memory foam mask for a few years now with great results. It is the only mask that fits my long skinny face and corroborated by my sleep doc. Occasionally it rides down slightly and makes a small red mark on the bridge of my nose. Recently it has created a very sore spot and I tried going without my ASV CPAP last night to give the spot a rest and that was a mistake in that I had a really bad night.

So does anybody have any ideas of a solution. I have to use this mask because of fit and a lifelong mouth breather.

Bandage? Strap? Something I have not thought of?

Thanks for any ideas! See image:

Have you checked the wiki for advice?

It is tricky to get the mask fit so it does not impinge upon the bridge of the nose too hard. I had an extremely hard time after chemotherapy. My only solution was to change mask frequently, to allow time to heal. Coconut oil applied to the sore area after awaking, was recommended by the nurse at the sleep center. it helped the damaged tissue to heal faster.

I'm a mouth breather as well. I started CPAP Therapy with an AirFit F20. I did well with it, but ordered an AirFit F30. Big time difference! Much better.

I also have an AirFit F40, but my mask of choice is still the F30. It doesn't ride on top of the nose at all. And, much less claustrophobic feeling as well.  Cool

Thanks. Tried that. Face is too thin. Plastic is too wide. Leaked like crazy. That is why I have to stay with the F20 foam.

I have a call into them, thanks. I intuit that I need something to keep the mask "up" and not sliding down my nose. . When it is up it really just contacts the very top of my nose bridge and forehead and feels great. I think when I lie on a pillow is side sleeping, it cruises down the nose a bit and irritates the skin there. Perhaps I just need to tighten up straps. I notice the headgear does pull into the head but not up in any way....

Please consider having a dermatologist look at your lesion to rule out serious conditions like skin cancer.

Have you tried other full face mask designs like the F&P Vitera? With the support piece that rests against the forehead it seems like a better design for people sensitive to nose bridge irritation, since the stabilizer piece directs less pressure to the bridge of the nose when top straps tightened and the mask is less likely to ride up/down and dig into the bridge.

Good advice and actually I am seeing one today for my usual 4 month check-up. Synchronicity!!

I have always wondered if I am developing yet another facial skin cancer. You had a great comment.
