ResMed Equipment Quality

Question
ResMed Equipment Quality
I’ve used CPAP for 20+ years and for the last 2 years I have experienced a degradation in the reliability and functionality of my equipment, ResMed/Esson.  Machine failure, tubing connect issues, headgear strap issues, mask/cushion problems. It appears to be related to equipment design changes that aren’t working as they should. I’m just starting my investigation and trying to remain calm but…a Friday night failure with no recourse until Monday is aggravating. Anyone else have this problem?

RE: ResMed Equipment Quality
i'm happy with the quality, but i don't know old stuff.
how did the design change ?

could you describe the problem in more detail ? what machine failure ?

could you thinker a little or do you have to preserve the equipment as is ?
snap fasteners (for the failing velcro), knitting (adapting size),
velcro tape (getting stuff away from the ears if necessary), rubber bands (hose connections, untested)..
..you don't have to wait till monday, if you just adapt stuff to your needs, right ?

RE: ResMed Equipment Quality
No offense intended, but your reply suggests AI or…English is not your first language. I was not requesting a defense or remedies for failures, only a response from other users having reliability and functionality issues with their equipment. In the interest of furthering the discussion I will address your response.
1. Machine failure:  One year ago my machine began stopping within 10-15 minutes of starting. I had to disconnect/reconnect the power to restart. My DME provider could not replace the machine due to lack of supplies. I changed providers and received a new machine. One week ago my machine stopped working in the middle of the night and would not restart. My provider replaced the power cord and so far, no more failures.
2.  For the past year plus the tubing disconnects from the frame during the night. I now use electrical tape to secure the connection. This is NOT a solution and this was not a problem until now
One month ago I received resupply of equipment and the cushion failed to connect properly to the frame. My provider gave me a new/different frame, cushion, and headgear. The strap clips on the frame are a different size and design and the old (backup) headgear will not attach.
The new headgear has a new strap/velcro design and the velcro  failed on one side. This is a new  Velcro system I’ve not seen before and it is not satisfactory. I’ve had to “rig” the strap while waiting for my provider to open on Monday.
3.  Of course I have to “adapt” to my needs, in the middle of the night. This also is NOT satisfactory.
My question remains the same. Is anyone else experiencing a degradation in the quality and functionality of their equipment?

RE: ResMed Equipment Quality
I've used nothing but ResMed equipment since Sept. of 2018. Myself, I haven't come across any problems or issues with my equipment.

My AutoSet 10 has been great. Dead quiet and reliable. I have three different FFM's on hand, and all serve their purpose. I'm trying to think of, or recall any problems. I can't!

There is a ROTECH DME supplier, and several months ago, I called to see if they happened to have the ResMed AirFit F40 mask in stock? They said that they did. I then asked if it would be possible to trade an AirFit F30 (still factory sealed in package) for an AirFit F40?

I was told sure, and they would set one aside for me until I came in. I went in within 90 minutes.  Big Grin

Anyways, although I haven't been using CPAP anywhere near as long as you have, and I'm not at all familiar with the "older equipment" quality, I have been pleased with what I have.  Cool

Thx for the response- glad you are doing ok and I hope it continues.
Since my problems are relatively recent I am interested in what could contribute to the issues; patient location, distribution points, and primarily the manufacturing location (US, China, etc). This is such an important part of patients lives, any breakdown in chain can be dangerous.

RE: ResMed Equipment Quality
The Eson 2 mask is a Fisher & Paykel product, not ResMed. No experience with it.

What machine do you have, what model? And how old is it?

I have an AirSense 10 AutoSet a little over two years old with 6,000 hours on it and it runs like a champ. I had the same machine prior and it was running just fine at 18,000 hours, but in the (apparently short) time they discontinued the AirSense 10 I got the new one at a steep discount. The first machine probably did not need it, but I just sent it out for refurbishing. ResMed machines are known for their rugged reliability and longevity.

You don't specify what your machine is or how long you've had it, but if it's ten years or more it doesn't owe you anything at this point. Get a new one. I'm not assuming yours is that old, but since you don't elaborate, we have no way of knowing.

RE: ResMed Equipment Quality
Most of us love our ResMed machines and consider them the gold standard for pap machines.  I'm so sorry you are having problems with yours.  I hope you can get a repair or replacement very soon. Good luck! Smile

RE: ResMed Equipment Quality
Thanks all for your responses. I’m not looking to trouble shoot my equipment, but to question quality assurance prior to distribution to patients. I’ve had a long and positive history with cpap but I’ve had a lot of nighttime aggravation for the past couple of years.
Thx again.

RE: ResMed Equipment Quality
Seems like for some, a bad experience with a DME supplier can really sour their overall CPAP experience.

That's why it's so important to find one that you like and trust.  Eat-popcorn

RE: ResMed Equipment Quality
Agreed. When I questioned my provider I got a non-committed statement covering his company. I’ll be checking with other providers and equipment. Being on Medicare with a machine less than a year old, that will probably be exciting.
I still want to know where the equipment was manufactured and criteria for distribution.
Thx.
