Resmed Write Frequency
I was looking to use an sd-usb multiplexer, or some form of open source wifi SD card(which I plan to manually hack on for my purposes) in order to read the data off my machine (a resmed S11) manually, but I wanted to know how frequently the data is written before purchasing one of possible. The most information I could find was "continuously." Does that mean every few seconds, or does it mean that it's every few minutes? I know the sleephq device uploads data every 10 minutes or so, so I would guess that it's within the few minutes range. I'm only really worried about having the CPAP machine believe that it's disconnected from the card, and for it to not record some data, so I just want to know if there's any more technical info out there about the functionality.

I'm not sure what an SD-USB multiplexer is, but I believe wifi from an SD card form factor is a losing battle.  They were introduced mainly to bring wifi access to older DSLR cameras, which have a very different usage pattern than CPAP machines.  Cameras create a file, dump it very quickly to the card and then close it, while the CPAP machine creates a file, and continuously appends data to the EDF files.  Add to that the inherent low power available to the SD card slot, so the compute power and wifi chip are necessarily slow.

I don't know the write frequency of the Resmed machines, but you could investigate.  On my machine, there is a small LED next to the card slot that's illuminated when the card is being accessed (probably writing *and* reading).  If you have a similar LED on your machine, just set up a go-pro to watch it for a few hours.  You would have to watch the footage and manually create the duty cycle you are after.  Or if you are a hardware hacker, bring out a lead from the LED and connect it to a logging device of some kind.

Good luck, and please follow up with your results.

Not sure if this will help. Years ago I tried a flashair card to send info from the cpap to my computer. It work for a while and it seemed tempo mental.

Here is a link. If you do a search there are other links from years ago.

Yeah, this is why I want to stay away from wifi cards. Ideally a when solution based on a multiplexer would work.

A multiplexer is something that can just switch between different connections. In this case, a multiplexer could switch between the USB output and the SD output with a command. The problem with that is that disconnecting it could make it lose data. I'll definitely look into it more like you suggested.

Is the idea to do real time monitoring of the data? You'd be asleep during the real time.

You could pull the card and update OSCAR each morning just as easily.

Real time monitoring would be cool since I could integrate it into home assistant for some automation, though I'm not fully expecting that to be possibls to the degree I'd like.

For me it is definitely not a "just as easily" thing for me; I will definitely forget to take the SD card out, or worse, forget to put it back in, and automating things like this is quite fun for me Big Grin.

Have you looked at the following 2 threads that have scripts that allow the EZ-Share Wi-Fi SD card to be used for wireless CPAP data transfer?

You could put this script in a crontab job, thus automating the transfer.

I've definitely seen that card! I personally have some reservations about the fact that it uses WiFi and isn't so easy to hack on to make it wired afaik, but it's on my list of things to try out for sure!
