Settings Help for Mild OSA please...

Settings Help for Mild OSA please...
Hello everyone, new here and pretty new to the cpap world.

Had mild sleep apnea for 7 or so years but got diagnosed a couple of months ago and offered a cpap machine so jumped at the chance. Tried a few masks and have settled on the p10 pillows one as it leaks the least. Full face was a bit problematic with comfort and leaks, tried it for a month or so. I have a deviated septum which has lead to mouth breathing at night so have a chin strap too.

Trouble is i am still feeling rather rubbish in the mornings. Have up'd my min pressure to 7 which has helped (i think) but not feeling very good yet. I was hoping to get some settings advice if possible please as i don't have much knowledge yet, although this forum is great for developing that! so will keep on reading!

Thanks in advance of any advice!

Stu

I see something on your OSCAR report I have trouble with often... Large Leaks and Leak Rate.

Run the Mask Fit test on your machine.  For a thorough test for leaks, I move my head, open my mouth, and move it also to replicate any motion that may occur during sleep then adjust the straps until no leaks occur.

At the top of this page you can read about leaks by Wiki > Search > OSCAR Leaks or:

Welcome to the forum,
Please post a copy of your sleep report with your info redacted.
Did you have CAs during your sleep study, if not, these CAs might be treatment emergent and will diminish.

You need at least 7 1/2 to 8 hours of therapy to feel better. It may take awhile to feel better since you had untreated apnea for so long.

Consider using lanilon to protect your nostrils and possibly help seal the mask.
You have mouth leaks which are compromising your therapy.
Are you using mouth tape? A 2x5 strip of  Kinesiology regular original cotton elastic athletic tape would  minimize your mouth leaks, or use a SomNoSeal device, a soft, flexible mouthpiece that prevents mouth breathing and dry mouth during sleep.

If you use that chin strap, be sure it fits under your chin and pulls straight up, not back at all.
Pulling your chin back worsens your apnea.

Hi Thanks for these replies. Correct, struggling with leaks. These two reports show the nights i used mouth tape, i find my jaw still relaxes too much with it unless i tape my entire mouth. I also have a mouth guard that creates suction to keep my mouth shut. Also have a chin strap, so maybe i need to use a combination these. I'll keep trying to get the best combo.

For many of us, mouth tape only works if we cover our whole mouth and a bit beyond. I use 2-inch-wide kinesiology tape cut long enough to go at least an inch beyond each side of my mouth. Otherwise, I get lots of leaks.
Machine:  ResMed AirCurve 10 Vauto
Mask:  Bleep DreamPort Sleep Solution and F&P Nova Micro

I found Cover Roll brand tape to be the least expensive and best adhering of the 4 tapes I tried.  My problem is that no matter how much tape and how well it sticks my jaw will lower causing it to leak.  Same with the chin straps and collars, nothing keeps this mouth closed.

Have been attempting to get my mouth/jaw to stop opening. Have improved i think but still a a few mouth leaks but definitely heading in the right direction. Does nyone know if these setting are ok? Would you change anything or just keep at it? Thanks so much....

Your leaks look better. but how did you feel? Were you rested?

You need to sleep a little longer using the therapy to get good results. 7 1/2  to 8 hours per night.
What was it that woke you up?

Your flow limitations are a little high, but since you are at the max EPR of 3 cm, you may have to raise your minimum pressure to deal with them.
Try a minimum of 9.4 cm which is essentially your median pressure. The tighter range of pressure may be more comfortable.
Post back after a few nights and let us know how you feel.

Thanks for the reply!

I am starting to feel a bit better, my deep sleep is certainly increasing which is something I've missed the most. The bags under my eyes are slightly less visible and but I still look like a corpse in the morning!

So my dog wakes my up at between 5 and 6 so I get up then, I need to work on increasing the therapy time so I need to hit the sack a bit earlier. That will be my next target

I'll try that suggested pressure and let you know! Cheers
