So I washed the Airtouch F20 Mask with Memory Foam
#11
RE: So I washed the Airtouch F20 Mask with Memory Foam
I've found them on Amazon for $30. Thankfully I currently have a DME, so I can use my health insurance to pay for them. Super pricey.

I tried washing mine, and ended up tearing the foam in two places. So I don't bother with that anymore. I use them until they leak... which is about 5 weeks.

The Resmed F20 with memory foam is a rip off, bedsides I seemed to always get that itch that had to be scatched, and didn't help the memory foam, I am finding the Resmed 30i nasal cushion far better with the chin strap much better.

I too wash mine and it seems to make it better, I also took an old one and cut off the foam piece and used nontoxic glue and glued one to another.  Makes it really comfy, no leaks and am going on two months. I haven't tried to wash the double one yet, but I am going to try.  I used waterproof glue and I think I can wash it safely.  I use an organic shampoo when I wash mine.  My single foam one washes well for almost three months now, once a week. Have to be really gentle tho. They are so expensive.  eBay sometimes has a good deal also. I would love to find out what kind of memory foam they use and make my own. I am gonna go to Ace and check out their supply of weatherstripping and try and make my own memory foam addition when these wear out, who can afford $40 a month for a piece of foam!!!!

You might consider buying a memory foam pillow. Cut whatever shape and thickness works best. And you could probably get a gazillion made from one pillow.

You're more talented than me.

Aussies:

Pack of 3 for AU$75 (RRP AU$99) at the CPAP Clinic and most retailers will match it.

My current Airfit F20 pillow is about 2 months old and going fine.  I just wipe it with a Resmed wipe each day.

Thanks Thank you for the advice about the pillow.  I tried that but I don't have anything that cuts memory foam accurately.  It was too thick and became a mess that just leaked.  I thought about it and figured if I can find a nontoxic weather stripping I should be able to do it ( fingers crossed) and save a ton of money and the environment by not tossing so much plastic away.  This CPAP industry is such a money-making scheme, unfair to those of us trying to heal and not go broke. My AirTouch has lasted over 9 months! Oh I forgot, I've only used it twice as it's just not for me with leaks that I couldn't adjust out.

Yes, the leaks are such a trial.  I glued one memory foam piece on top of the other and sealed all sides with the glue and I have perfected my mask, no leaks, and no noise. I have been working this out since July and finally after buying everything and making my own sealer, gluing the exact same thing on to the mask has done it.  I have had almost a week of pure sleep, no interruptions.  If I find weatherstripping that works on another prototype I will share and maybe help someone else. I have discovered for me it is matching the original seal with the same.  None of the other sealing solutions have worked for me. It is amazing to sleep.

The only hope of cutting this stuff would be an old trick I used on regular foam, back in the day...

Get an old-school serrated double blade electric carving knife. Next to nothing from a garage sale or thrift store. And then use a light touch and go slow. It still might not work with memory foam.  I have no experience trying to cut that type of foam.  Also, and it might sound weird, and I don't even know if it would work, but you might try putting a chunk of your memory foam in the freezer and see if it gets more firm and less mushy before you try to shape it.
