Still struggling to find the right CPAP settings and machine after one month
Hey everyone,
I’ve been using CPAP for a month now, but I still haven’t found the right setup for me—whether it’s the mask, machine, or pressure settings. I haven’t even been able to fully explore different pressure levels yet because I keep running into equipment issues that I need to fix first.
At first, I was given a Prisma Smart Max, and I was quite satisfied with it. It’s relatively quiet, and overall, it seemed fine. But recently, when condensation started building up in the hose, it began making an annoying wind noise. Also, as the pressure increased, the machine got louder. I reported this to my provider, and they suggested a heated hose to reduce condensation and the noise caused by water buildup. However, they said the Prisma’s heated hose system is a nightmare to set up, so they just swapped my machine instead.
Now they’ve given me a Philips DreamStation 2 Advanced, saying they had been waiting for this model for a long time due to the recall. And honestly… it’s a disaster. It feels cheaply made, and the noise is unbearable—it sounds like a jet engine. I couldn’t sleep with it, and even my wife (who had no issues with the Prisma) couldn’t sleep because of the noise.
So now I’m stuck. What should I do? I’m sensitive to noise, so I need a quiet machine. Should I go back to the Prisma and find a better way to handle condensation, or are ResMed machines a better option?
If anyone has experience with these machines or can recommend a quieter CPAP, I’d really appreciate your advice! Thanks a lot.
