Tips for Mastering the P10

Tips for Mastering the P10
Grog...

Help

I struggled with the P10 all night. I have worn it every previous night (3) and during the day/naps to get used to it.

It LEAKS and the straps come off. My leak rate is up to 32 and it keeps climbing. The mask fit is fine according to the obnoxious Mr. Maskfit Smiley Face. This info is from my user panel on the A10A 4Her.

Note I never sleep on my side (I can't) but I do like to move my head sideways onto a bed pillow while supine. The whole get-up comes off.

This is what I've tried:
-all 3 pillow sizes (Small, many times; medium, maybe 4 times; and XSmall, twice.); I can get all of them to work for a little while
-many positions of headgear (limited somewhat by the nasal pillow size to achieve the correct tightness; the headgear slides all around in the night
-using a little Lansinoh where my nose flares (I doubt this is especially good for the pillows)

Any other ideas short of nailing pillows to nostrils and super-gluing the headband?

RE: Tips for Mastering the P10
I found that the weight of the hose can cause mask movement so anchoring the CPAP hose is essential.  I clip mine to my pillow, others hang the hose on the head of the bed.  Took me from major leaks to nearly none.

From your other tread you mention using a lot of humidifier water. This moisture can cause fit issues if it condenses and lubricates the mask. I find the best fit is with a larger size nasal pillow that is cleaned of all oils (I use Dawn). I can suggest a more moderate humidity setting. What are you using now?

For the headgear you may want to use the clips that come with it to tighten the straps. Also you might try using bobby pins to hold the straps in place.

Most of us that use the P10 find that one size larger pillow than what you think you wear works best.

The pillows should not be inserted into the nostrils,  just the very tip of pillows and mostly resting under the nose.

Lansinoh Cream is recommended (found in baby isles) but not Vaseline.  I also use AYR nasal gel.

After putting your mask on and first turn on air (or during mask fit check), jiggle the pillow lightly side to side and pull away slightly to reset in place.

As far as the headgear, ResMed includes clips that can be used to tighten the straps.  They usually “hide” them behind the instruction manual.  You can also watch You Tube videos for tips.

To me it sounds like the hose is what is pulling on the mask and causing the leaks. I would suggest a hose management system, either one you can buy on ebay or amazon or make one yourself (I bought one and it is great, it folds up for travelling and has a bungee cord that allows the hose to stretch either way when you turn) it will hold the hose above your head and allow the hose to move with you as you move around.

Climate control is on auto. I went through the whole water tank last night, too. And it's not even winter (which would be drier because of central heating).

Problem is, my mouth is still drier than a bone. Paradoxically, I produce little bubbles through a little opening vetween my lip (I evidently don't spend the whole night with my mouth open any more. Progress.)

I was re-arranging my nostrils all night owing to the delightful breeze whooshing over my face.

MyAir App says my leak rate was 10, my machine says 35. Go figure.

My SD card reader arrived, so SleepyHead will be on tap soon.

Thanks Marillion. You might be right about the tugging. I hadnt thought of that. I've been using a hose buddy, but it smacks against the headboard, so I'm having to return it. I'll likely switch to clips or get clever and come up with something creative.

Great idea about the hairclips.  All 3 pillow sizes seem to fit per your description, so from here it's likely a matter of comfort as far as which one I choose. The small and medium tend to blast air against the sidewalls in my nose, and that might not be great for nose longevity, but we'll see!

I did battle against all 3 sizes last night, so my nose is swaddled in Lansinoh this morning...  Coffee
