When To Replace Equipment

When To Replace Equipment
Been using my same hose, tub, mask, headgear, etc, (except filters) for over a year. What is a REALISTIC timeframe to replace this stuff IF they show no signs of wear, damage, degradation, etc. Besides keeping a DME company profitable, is there a good reason to ever replace these items if they look and are still functioning perfectly fine? How long are people using theirs?
I hate the idea of replacing stuff JUST BECAUSE a DME co. suggests it and its still functioning well.

It sounds as if you have a clue, and that's a very good thing. I'm of the same mindset. I don't replace equipment until I 'm sure it's appropriate.

My water chamber is going on 6.5 yrs. old. I keep it clean and in good shape. I replaced the air hose last summer, only because the elbow was going bad. The rubber was degrading and it was obvious.

Anyways, IMHO, the equipment will last far longer than what the DME wants you to think, when  properly maintained and cared for.

I even reuse (wash) the air filters for my 10 AutoSet.  Cool

RE: When To Replace Equipment
I get about 6 to 8 weeks out of a mask. I wait until I see the foam starts to tear, usually on the bridge of the nose. Don't remember how old my hose is as it is not DME provided as they won't cover a 10 footer. Tank is about 4 months old. Had to replace it after one of the cats knocked it off the counter onto the tile floor and the cover came off (broke the little hinge pins). The only thing I regularly get are masks and filters. My wife's machine uses the same parts as mine, and we both have the same mask. Usually swap the headgear out at the end of the summer.

I give everything a hot soak and wash for a few hours every week so I try and stay on top of it. But no signs of degradation or failure yet.

My nasal mask is all silicone - no foam to worry about. Cat accidents don't apply to the topic...lol! After I satisfy my 2025 Medicare deductible I'll reconsider restocking my stash of supplies.
