Once the first filter is ready to replace in  a few more weeks, I'll try hand washing , and see what it does.

Miss Tinkerbell asked: "Was that a Sunset filter?"

Ma'am, I honestly don't know...I ordered them from an online source called Help Medical Supplies in Statin Island NY.  The filters are in sealed individual envelopes that says they are made in USA, and distributed from Chicago IL, USA, and for ResMed 10's and 11's.  Other than that, no info as to who actually mfg'ed them.

Hope this info may have been some help...

ResMed Brand filters can be found at a U.S. online supplies site, but I think it is against the rules to include the name of the company here.  I found them by a search for ResMed CPAP filters.  They come in individual packs REF 36855.  Made in UK.  They are expensive.  My local CPAP parts supplier will not provide them due to their bulk generic ones being so low priced.  They provide a bulk "ResMed Style," filter that to me is dangerous due to its loose filter fibers and lack of  filtration ability.

The ResMed Brand has a membrane-like covering to contain the fibrous filter material within.  It fits the filter tray better due to its proper dimensions as opposed to others that are a bit too small to securely fit into the filter tray.

The ResMed filters discolor with use.  The generic ones I've been provided with do not.  I have heard of an insurance-accepting supplier who will provide ResMed filters.  I hesitate to write the name due to forum rules. (I've had two offense notifications due to posting a CPAP supplies company name.)

ejbpesca,

I feel a need to jump in here to clarify your comments about AB rules.

You are allowed to say a DME or vendor name as long as you're not posting a link. If you would read Rule #5, it's pretty clear what you can and cannot post.

You can refer to a DME by the Supplier # assigned to them on our Supplier List, and if they are not on that list, you can say their name, as long as no link is included. The only DME that you can not say their name is Supplier #1, as their name is a link.

Unfortunately, after I visit a site my computer will automatically turn the company name into a link anywhere I type it.  I can change a company name up a bit to prevent it from doing so which is confusing but maybe will work.

Any suggestions?

Supplier number 26 on the supplier list here is where I purchased ResMed Brand filters.  Look to the top of the ApneaBoard screen for Supplier List.

Thanks to everyone who has posted on this thread. Ejbpesca, I took your suggestion and went to supplier 26. The filters are pricey to say the least, about $5. I have an AirSense 11, but my prior CPAP was a 10, and I had filters left over. I found that they can be trimmed to fit the S11 perfectly, and for some reason the S11 filters are more expensive than the S10.  So I bought the S10 filters. Supplier 26 does have price points for quantity, so I bought 25 to get the cheapest price, something over $3. Still pricey, but now I'm covered for the next 2 years. When you think about it, even $5 a month is a cheap price to pay to be able to breathe.

They are washable and reusable. No sense in not doing that.  Bigwink

RE: Where to get GENUINE Resmed Airsense S10 FILTERS?
Please take a look at what trimming a filter does to the filter material.  What got me going on questioning filters is generic filters I received from a local DME that had fibers that easily came loose.  I showed one to the DME.  The person was impressed with how the exposed fibers came off with a finger flick.  I am afraid those could pass through the machine to the mask.

The DME switched brands of filters.  The new generic brand has very fine fibers that are also loose and poking out around the edges of the filter.  I may have gone from frying pan to fire with those.  They too do not discolor after a month of use. It was when I switched DMEs and noticed their filters did not discolor after use that I first became concerned with filters.

It is easy to find extremely low-priced CPAP filters online.  I feel the CPAP filter industry is not regulated, products are tested and meet no filtration ability or safety standards.  I would like to see a MERV rating on them and some sort of certification which of course would drive the price up but does it not make sense to ensure the safety of something as critical as a filter that could send polyester or other fibers into one's lungs?

I don't know if the ResMed brand is tested or certified as safe but at least they discolor with use and appear to have the least amount of loose fibers.  I do see a bit of fuzz on their edges.

It was pretty disturbing to me to have fellow CPAP users claim that filters are only there to protect the machine from dust, not there to protect the patient from anything.  It was suggested I clean up the air in my house if I have a problem.  I do not think some filters protect the machine or the patient since they do not discolor as do other filters in my house. Some only project machines like the dehumidifier and AC units, others are air purifiers.  They all discolor with use.

My biggest concern has been loose fibers, not filtration effectiveness, but I want proper filtration especially due to being severely allergic to airborne allergens that are impossible to completely remove from the air.  The ResMed brand turns gray after a month of use as did my Phillips filters on my first machines which is evidence of filtration.  The machine pulls air in, compresses it, and forces it to the nose and mouth.  This action causes a concentration of dust, pollen, dander, etc. that would not be present in normal breathing.  Of course, the filter is there to protect the patient from the action of the machine. Curiously, anti-bacterial in-line add-on filters are available.  Why not just make the main filter of that quality?

My DME has not agreed to supply me with ResMed filters.  I will either switch to a DME that will supply ResMeds or just pay for ResMeds out of pocket.  I am done with filters that are not working to filter out particulates and pose a danger of sending fibers to the mask.  I urge all CPAP users to take a look at their filters with a magnifying glass, flick the filter, and give a gentle tug on exposed fibers to see if they can easily come loose, and not take for granted that any filter is okay.
