Wording of prescription

While I am based in Australia, I still need a prescription to purchase a machine.

Why so? Is that a Queensland thing? Or perhaps it's just your supplier. As a general rule a prescription is not required to purchase a CPAP machine in Australia.

As an aside, the TGA website specifically states that you may import a machine purchased on-line, though they go on at some length about the risk of getting shonky goods or being ripped off.

Paula, the more specific prescription is the one to go with. Be sure to tell your doctor that you cannot tolerate a lesser unit to the extent you self-financed your upgrade to auto with data capability. You can let him know that without his assistance in specifying a unit, the supplier only has to use the cheapest unit that fits the prescription, like happened last time.

I have been corrected regarding the For Her model. All Resmed Autosets include the standard and soft algorithm. The for-her algorithm is a third distinct program and is only on the For Her models.

I don't know how important this is but mine also includes "length of need 99 months, (99 months =lifetime)"

It also lists all of the individual items I may need such as heated hose, chin strap, replacement water chamber, etc.

No more pink...white with inlaid floral pattern. It's not too bad, and you could always hide it in a drawer or put motocross decals on it. Maybe a REPSOL sticker?

Since I am about due for a new machine, I have wondered about the same question that Paula has posted.  I have a new sleep doctor since I was originally diagnosed and I'm wondering how does one know if they need the 'For Her algorithm' (so they can reply with confidence when questioned by the sleep doctor)?

It is my understanding the "For Her" detects more and reports more than the others. In particular, RERA. I would prefer to have a machine that reports everything it can. I know the Dreamstation and other PR machines report a lot but I'm not sure I can tolerate their breathing patterns. I'd rather stick to one I know I can.

Am I making sense?

algorithm on the black Cpap?

While I agree that some sort of way to input neck size and other biometrics would be good, I don't see why having a machine just for women is justifiable other than for marketing purposes. I think they saw how many women wanted a pink Autoset for Her and decided to expand on it. To say that women as a whole have such a different treatment need is just stupid. We're not all the same any more than all men are the same. We don't all have the same neck size, sleep in the same position, or breathe the same way just because we have (or once had) ovaries.

I call bull crap on the cutesie pink and white machine with its alleged specialized algorithm. I'll wait for the study to be duplicated by someone less biased before I'll even consider believing it. Because if the study were true, why isn't there a S10 for Him? If women need something different, don't men? I can see there being an "One Size Fits Most" middle ground but shouldn't there be one for men?

Here is what For Her is supposed to look like.  I'm still unclear on the matter, but I understand this is in addition to Standard and Soft autoset algorithms.  We need Paula to get one and tell us all about it.

ROFLMAO!! That is exactly how I felt, too. Still do to some degree. Which is why I disregard the "for her" bit and want the thingy for the RERA and not because it is pretty. I still don't understand why it is that way for a "for her" machine and not for everyone.

And wow, have these machines been out for that long??
