dealing with throat inflammation and mucus?

dealing with throat inflammation and mucus?
I have MCAS and a neurological disease that cause throat inflammation and the associated mucus build up. Im trying some supplements to see if I can reduce the level of histamine and excitatory neurotransmitters. Have you found ways to control inflamation and mucus in your upper airway?
I started out trying to use the automated mode but I cant get it to run smoothly. Is there a good document on setting up the DS-8 MT30?

RE: dealing with throat inflammation and mucus?
Hello kirskies,

Welcome to Apnea Board!

We can't give medical advice here, but I found a Google article that may help you with the excess buildup of mucus in your throat.  Unless the mucus is a direct cause of your MCAS (Mast Cell Activation Syndrome) that you suffer with, you should be getting advice from your treating physician for this and also they should be helping you set up this BiPAP.
Or is this a Ventilator... I'm not sure?

1.  Keep the air moist. ...
2.  Drink plenty of fluids. ...
3.  Apply a warm, wet washcloth to the face. ...
4.  Keep the head elevated. ...
5.  Do not suppress a cough. ...
6.  Discreetly get rid of phlegm. ...
7.  Use a saline nasal spray or rinse. ...
8.  Gargle with salt water.

Also, we have a Clinician's Manual for the BiPAP you are using, the VentMed-DreamSleep DS8 ST30 which you can order here and receive via email download.  This might help you with setup.

Scroll down to SECTION THREE toward the bottom of page, you will see your machine listed under VentMed.
Follow the directions exactly for ordering. Be sure to list your machine description correctly.

RE: dealing with throat inflammation and mucus?
I use ResMed brand hypoallergenic filters and a bacteria filter that reduces throat problems for me.  My machine is set to Bacteria filter.  At the end of the month when I change them, both are discolored from catching particulates.  Using the generic filters from the DME shows no discoloration and the filters have loose fibers.

Bacteria filters can cause moisture to gather when using the humidifier causing possible mold to grow within them.
I only give suggestions from experience as a fellow CPAP user, not professional advice.

I just read the specs on your machine provided by the link by Rose in her post above.  It has IBR (like EPR) and a back up rate and tidal volume settings (EVAPS), rise time, TI, etc.

If you download OSCAR and then upload some charts, we could see more details about your therapy and could most likely better help you optimize your settings on your machine.

Click on the links in my signature in this post to help download OSCAR and organize your charts.

OSCAR may not support your particular machine; but it is definitely worth a try to attempt using OSCAR software.  If it doesn't, you can upload all of your settings, and we could possibly at least be able to spot any setting that is out of the ordinary.
