humidifier working when set to zero?

humidifier working when set to zero?
Hi guys

I think I read somewhere in the forum about someone using their humidifier set to zero. I have the S9 humidifier. I typically set it around 3. I'm not sure I understand exactly how the thing works. If I set it to zero, is the humidifier adding any humidity to my airflow?

And another question, if I may: Does the amount of water in the humidifier have any impact on its noise?

Humidifier at zero with water in the tub will add water that the air collects as it passes over the water. Unless you are getting rainout / water collecting in the hose, it should not be louder with more moisture. If you do not have a heated hose, water can collect and make gurgling noises.

I use passive humidification, keeping water in the tank but without turning it on. while I regularly have sneezing, congestion & runny nose for an hour or two after shutting the machine down, adding active humidification seems to make it worse. a tankful lasts about a week in roughly 50 to 60% ambient humidity in my house.

others may differ but in 4 years with 3 different types of resmed machines, I haven't noticed a noise difference relative to the humidifier. (otoh, higher pressure is noticeably noisier.)

Humidity where I live is never less than 50%.  However, I do much better on CPAP if I have water in the reservoir.  I sometimes raise the tube temperature for comfort, but my humidity is always at 1 or 0.  It takes four-to-five days for the water in the reservoir to evaporate.  But, that's exactly what happens as 50% humidity air passes over the surface of the water.  So, yes, your humidity rises just by having the machine pass room air over the water surface inside the reservoir.
