mouth taping - all or partly?
How to tape correctly to stop the large leaks?
Some people argue that it should be completely sealed. They recommend taping it so the seal doesn't come loose even if I get squirrel-cheeked.
Some doctors claim that allowing squirrel-cheeked will put a strain on my lungs. Therefore, they insist that I should tape it vertically and let out any air that comes out.
Which one is right?
RE: mouth taping - all or partly?
I tape vertically, some tape horizontally. A little experiment is in order for you. Start with the minimum ( vertical). My method is basically an incentive to keep my mouth closed. Some may actually need to plug the hole in the boat. Trying different methods is all you can do.
RE: mouth taping - all or partly?
How does taping compare to chin strap? Is the vertical doing similar as both seems would keep the mouth closed but not totally sealed?
RE: mouth taping - all or partly?
I have no idea since I never used a chin strap. My situation is I can keep my mouth and lips sealed most of the time, it’s the time I am asleep and I relax and my mouth opens. The vertical tape is just enough to remind me subconsciously to keep my mouth closed. It does nothing for sealing a leak.

Very little concern should be given over inflating your lungs with CPAP. The pressure just isn't there.
