power outages while sleeping with mask on

power outages while sleeping with mask on
has somebody experienced a power outage
while sleeping with full gear ?

isn't it a bit scary ?

i mean one would get less air with the device unpowered,
than without anything, right ?

can it be dangerous ?

hopefully i would wake up quickly enough.

There is a anti-asphyxiation valve in the mask that allows for some air to pass through if the power goes out.
One night, some how, I did not turn on the machine and for 6 hours I slept with just breathing through the anti-asphyxiation valve.
I had thought that my COPD was acting up but when I got up to turn the machine off, I actually turned it on.
Yes, it was awkward but I am alive.

I just wear a nasal mask and just wake up when the power goes out. I have learned now if we are having high winds to just go ahead and run off the battery pack instead of having to hook it up when the power goes out in the middle of the night. No issues with suffocating or anything like that.

That is one of the three main functions of the diffuser on your mask. With the exception of car54 :-) Most folks will notice.

You could purchase a backup battery power supply that you could charge and plug your device into at the same time, which will automatically activate if it loses power. Also a good option for when camping or if you lose power for extended periods.

When the power has gone out for me , I instantly know it's gone out as the pressure is gone . No matter how deep of sleep you are in.

It was mentioned masks have a antispxiation valve , or even some are just a vent.   Even if it was taped up , I believe one would wake up pretty quick . Remembereber their is only a chance of rebreathing CO2 carbon dioxide.  Not co or carbon monoxide as some figure . Co is a product of combustion such as a car , furnaces , charcoal , fire etc.

I hope this helps.

Many time the power has failed while I’m sleeping with my BPAP, and the first thought is, oh crap, how long will the power be out? It wakens me every time. No drama, but when the pressure ends, sleep is over. If it looks like a long duration event, I start the generator. I have to ge an automatic transfer switch. I’m getting too old for this sh*t.
