Number of vent holes ResMed AirFit F30i mask - SevereApnea - 09-17-2021

Hi all, calling all F30i users....

F30i vent holes the ones I have marked are not open.

How many of your vent holes are actually open?

I have accumulated a number of F30i cushions in different sizes S, SW, M, W.

They all have two rows of vent holes, 12 up top, 13 at the bottom.

But not all the holes on all the masks are open:

S =22, SW =21, SW = 21, M = 21, W = 22, W = 22, W = 23.

None have all 25 holes open.

By Design? Quality lapse? Within tolerances?

Do any of your masks have all 25 holes open? Or even less than 20?

Could this effect Carbon Dioxide venting?

The mask I am using right now has 25 open holes and is a medium.
Maybe some has less open holes.....but none that I noticed.
Not sure why even if only 20 of the holes were open that should cause problems?

I just checked; 21 holes on a medium cushion. The outer two on each side are blocked. I'd guess a manufacturing defect.

Not sure it matters. I'm amazed at how much air this mask vents. I assume it's actually the same as (say) an F20 but the way it's concentrated through the front holes feels like a jet of air coming out the front.

I'm guessing they are blocked because it is cheaper to block them in the injection mold than to have to add them later. If additional leakage is ever needed, they can easily open them up. An injection mold can cost thousands of dollars.

This mask also vents at the top of your head, so I doubt the exact number of holes on the mask matters much.

Drill some extra holes. Here's a nice drill sound effect to get you motivated.

@Dave, sheesh not a good sound to start a weekend with eeew , we can always rely on you for some light relief, thanks for the idea!

@Nelson, thanks! that means I am not the only one.

@SleepyHenry, 25 holes open, that's lucky: I am feeling quite left out!

@Crimson Nape, yes understand the cost issue, just taking note of the variance in production QA here. Maybe this is not a big issue.

@Deborah, I accept the top vent holes also exist, are these more important than the front ones?

I am asking for reasons more than curiosity. Previous posts mentioned adding extra holes to the P10 vents, with good results in reducing side effects such as headaches.

Looking forward to more replies.

Dave. I may have to hurt you now, as much as that video hurt me...!

How would you know? How would you know if all 25 holes were open? I am sure we all have different gas exchange efficiencies, so who decides what is the best balance?

Ratchick, I'm glad there's a pond between us. I'd rather not be more disabled. Smile

Apparently, dental drills are a universal sound of pain.
