Mask leaks facial fissures - Mark Douglas - 10-22-2022

My AHI is effectively zero (Thanks Mark/OSCAR!) but I must use a nasal and tape my lips shut and that's a drag and expense I don't need.

I have yet to find a face mask that will seal because of the groves/fissures in my skin. An inherited issue aggravated by age.

I have asked this in years past put hey maybe things have changed.

Anyone have an answer?

There have been attempts to build custom masks based upon a laser scan but the FDA/Big players squash them like a bug....

Thanks in advance.

Mark

I have no experience if this works, but I wonder if a film dressing like Tegaderm on the skin would help?

Have you considered Bleep Sleep Solutions (Dreamports…Eclipse is coming soon). These simply attach to your nose with adhesive, then the tube is attached and plug into the hose on your machine. There is no headgear and it really isn’t a mask in the true sense. Google “Bleep Sleep Solutions” for more info.

I’m not affiliated with the company, just a very happy customer.

There's a product called "cpapgel mask leak sealer" (made by DCH Labs) that's apparently a goo of mostly aloe with a few stabilizers etc added in that seems to have good reviews. My wife ordered some yesterday because she tends to get leaks at the edges of her nose. Might be worth trying. Prices seem to vary *widely* on it, but Amazon's at $10 was significantly cheaper than any of the supplier list stores that popped up when I googled it. For $10, it was worth trying for us - if it doesn't work for her masks, it's still aloe gel for all the other things aloe can be used for, so it's still not a total waste.
