Hello and help please - oztrax - 02-15-2023

Hi, had sleep studies with a qualified sleep doctor. He said I had severe OSA.
Tried CPAP , but ended up quite ill with inner ear vertigo and severe migraine headaches. I was bedridden for a couple of months. Saw ENT specialists who said I had a perfect storm of SCDS and a possible viral inner infection leading to my problems. Every time I used the CPAP , about 4 times, I was confined to bed for 2 or more days with the vertigo, nausea/vomiting and migraines.

So here I am 1 year later, battling increasing fatigue, morning headaches, lack of appetite and weight loss. Still not sure if OSA is the root cause, but have had a lot of blood tests and scans to rule out almost any other cause.
Also have lowish blood pressure, am a Non-dipper at night, which means OSA.
2 years ago I was incredibly active, both at work and home. I loved my life….

Not sure if BIPAP or a MAS would work, or even if I have another medical issue causing this.

How many of you out there have experienced severe fatigue that was caused by OSA ?
not so much tired/sleepy, but exhausted after an hour or 2 doing anything physical ?

I was hospitalized years ago for another reason, and diagnosed with OSA. My OSA was so bad then, I'd fall asleep during the day while standing up, and wake up as I was crashing to the floor, once down a flight of steps. Fell asleep driving and my vision got very weird. Sleep is everything.
Before your sleep test, was everything fine? Did all the trouble start after using cpap? I've had vertigo a few times, but it was brought on more by extreme stress and dehydration, drinking to much. There are other causes of vertigo, but high inner air pressure from cpap may induce vertigo, don't think it's a definite cause though.

Thanks Jeremy, the vertigo and inner ear issues has got better over 6 months. I was hoping this was the cause of fatigue, low appetite etc.

Will see an endocrinologist for an examination and tests, so far all blood tests have come back OK.

Was interested if APAP,BIPAP work better for OSA than CPAP.

You have options, besides a CPAP machine.  I am doing fine with my machine but otherwise I would be looking at alternatives to see if any would help.
