Brick

Jump to: navigation, search

A "Brick" is a slang term for a CPAP machine that has little to no data recording capability. A Durable Medical Equipment (DME) provider gets paid the same for a state of the art Auto CPAP as it does for a much cheaper, potentially older model, fixed CPAP that has no data capability. A “Brick” will be more profitable for a DME provider, but much less useful to the patient. Patients have the right to choose their own DME provider and should not be afraid to go elsewhere to get what they want. It's best for a patient to become informed and know which specific make and model of machine is best.

For more information on how to effectively work with your DME provider, please see Dealing with a DME.
